Racketboy's 5 Year Mark Approaching

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Wasn't the site just redirecting to blogspot back then?

True -- but I'm just going by my first blog post.

It was on Blogspot then. But it was the foundation of the site.
And it wasn't terribly exciting at first -- mostly just news posts of new retro releases and such.

I think the first big original piece was this one from the end of 2005:

It was actually the inspiration for the Hidden Gems feature.

Hooray.

I found racket through emuasylum's forums - which they keep asking me to come back to (I only made a handful of informed post on handheld gaming). I sent him my Pacman Vs idea after Momocon 07 and joined the forums soon after for the Retro Hacks book contest.

Congratulations. I'm a relative newcomer. I only found this site about a year ago, but I'm glad I did. Lots of smart, insightful, funny, and civil people here. I found the guides after getting a saturn, and stuck around for the forums. I essentially never participate in forums without a threaded view, but here I am. You must have done something right.

Oh right, this is why I joined.

Nick made e-love to me by featuring a stupid little page I made, giving me much undeserved attention. I joined the forums a week later.

So, any plans in mind to celebrate eh?

BTW, for those who haven't already, go and read all of the previous articles on the site, great stuff.

I remember when your blog went up. I didn't join the forums until just shy of 2 years later... but the forums weren't here from the get go (as commented).

Though I knew it was a while ago, jeez, I didn't know it was THAT long ago. Kinda creepy. I've been a member of retro gaming forums (with strong Sega themes) for nearly a decade now.

I do know why I joined. Racket was a member at SX with a link to his site in his siggy... and SX was basically in its final throws of life.

Hadn't really thought about it, to be honest -- at least I have until June to think of something :)

Don't read too far back though -- my early stuff is rather lackluster, IMO
It takes a while to find you're groove :)
