However a Dreamcast or Xbox 360 hooked in a Arcade cab is sufficient.

Ill break it down like this

Xbox 360: Best graphics , Online play , CHEAP
Gamecube: Blurred graphics, Only USA physical release
Dreamcast: ARCADE PERFECT, Japan ONLY, EXPENSIVE , no ANALOG

I like playing my Dreamcast version in the Arcade cabinet the best.

In my experience the Gamecube version stutters a bit in normal play (not just at bosses) relative to the Dreamcast and 360 version. I think the 360 version is great, but as I prefer my DC stick to my EX2, the Dreamcast is still (just about) my favourite version...

I do own the GC version, it's looks about the same on s-video as the DC version does on s-video, but the VGA is unbeatable.
in Europe, this blurriness is non-existent and same quality as DC if you play it on a Wii using RGB SCART :)

As far as I can tell the gc and dc games are pretty much the same, I prefer using the dreamcast controller so IMO tht's the best version to play.
I've seen the dc version for around $90 if you keep an eye out you probably can get it a bt cheaper. Now if you do try to burn a copy (which I'd do before spending $100 on it), I'd strongly suggest to not even attempt to use discjuggler. It's outdated, takes a lot of fiddling and is totally unnecessary. Get either nero or alcohol 120% and burn it on a slow speed just lke you would any other disc image. It'll work just fine.
isnt .cdi a Padus format? - most DC rips are .cdi in my experience

and why every one is going nuts over it

honestly, i got it off the internet , I ran it , its good shooter
I just don't see whats so special that no other shooter can mimic

plus, shooters are too complex and difficult(few lives) to continue

i guess its old school, the type where you have only 8 levels but
your eyes would pop out because you have to do all the timing and
no mistakes
seriously?

- I dont often use these sort of words about games, but I would consider Ikaruga a 'masterpiece' and definitely a 'work of art'

even though it is hard, its balance makes it 'fair'

the art is just incredible and the music is epic

it is, without a doubt my favourite shmup ever (even thought Im terrible at it)

The arcade Cabinet was about $1200 shipped 4 years ago.

Console to Arcade adapter was about $200 in parts . Throw in the Japanese Dreamcast and Ikaruga for another $150

About $1600 dollars total with shipping and taxes.

That's one expensive hobby. Could get more expensive though, I think the prices for the more popular shmup games hover somewhere over $1000 per game.

Now all I need is to win the lottery :)

What are the changes that were made to it? I've never played the DC or GC versions (watched a roommate play the GC version for 5 minutes) so I don't have a standard of comparison.

don't even get me started on how much it sucks not having RGB/SCART input available on our TV's in the states. You guys over the pond got so much more out of the 16/32 bit era. I still think a VGA monitor would achieve a higher resolution than a CRT TV, but if you've got a HDTV with SCART then you're probably 100% correct.

why people think so much of this game ?
Don't you think there are better games graphics wise? even art style wise, say Okami?
or you are talking Shmups level?
