Secret of Mana/Evermore battle system

Post by PGchris »

Ok so it not really a "system" but the fighting in these two games is so simple, I love it. It's so satisfying to charge up and then reduce something to a blob of goo, I think it would be awesome if they made a modern rpg with this type of fighting.
Systems Owned: SNES, N64, Dreamcast, Xbox 360, PS2, DS, Sega Genisis+32x+CD, Saturn, PSP

i actually agree. secret of mana, evermore (even though i dislike the story) and secret of mana 3 (never released outside japan but my personal favorite) have great battle systems that they should of kept for the newer mana games. i hope they learn one of these days.

I have Secret of Mana on the Super Nintendo... this praise for its battle system makes me look forward to playing it. :)

The fact that you can have a 2nd player pick up and play is really nice. I'm planning on wrangling my GF into playing SoM with me. She usually won't play video games with me, since she's not very good. But any human player can do better than the computer, so that's no excuse. And the extra interactivity will help keep her interest. She does like RPGs, but some of them can be pretty tedious to watch while grinding. SoM has one of the best plots of any RPG I've played, and the combat system makes it ideal to share with others.

I bought a multi-tap on the SNES soley to play 3 player SoM. And it's glorious.

It does have to be said, though, that having the Sprite as a computer player does let you chain cast for massive damage.
