Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
The song's kinda catchy, but i found it to be pretty weak overall.

Holy shit I haven't heard that since high school. Had it on one of those old "Identity" Century Media compilations. There was some bad shit on that label. Some good shit too, but some really bad shit.

Yeah, just looking at that shows a real wide range of crap to spectacular.

that song could be played on repeat in a hospital nursery it's so soft.Gamerforlife wrote:I keep forgetting that metal heads don't like anything that's actually pleasing to the ear. Good vocals and production are "too squeaky clean".

It's fine, no big deal. I dig Kamelot and don't really have a problem with what some people would call "soft" metal. I just don't get why people think all metal has to be harsh sounding with low production, growls, etc. That's exactly what turns a lot of people off metal.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Some amount of shit-talkin' is part of this thread as well as most every metal discussion on the web.
No need to take things personally.
I insult bands & genres I like more than ones I dislike anyway.
And I listen to bands that certainly have a harsher sound to them, but don't see anything wrong with the occasional metal song with a more mainstream friendly sound either. I can dig Kamelot or Nightwish, and I can dig Kalmah or Agalloch too. I guess I'm weird.

it's just not my thing, man. i don't get into shit like that. i listen to plenty of "slick-sounding" metal but this whole prog-metal hyper produced stuff really just turns me off. it doesn't have to sound like shit, but it's just gotta have some kind of energy behind it for me to really enjoy it. stuff like kamelot and nightwish isn't metal to me as much as it is just heavy modern rock. but to each their own.Gamerforlife wrote:It's fine, no big deal. As cliché as it is to say, I actually like Nightwish's "old stuff." Angels Fall First, Oceanborn, Wishmaster...
Of course, Tuomas Holopainen was once in the black metal band Darkwoods My Betrothed and I vastly prefer that style.
