Namco Bandai last I checked is still doing somewhat decent they just seem to be pumping out sequels last i checked...heck they've even have what seems to be a half SMT rip-off to some extent coming out not to mention Tales of Vesperia so there's that(and don't really hear many complain about those). I ought to follow the devs from those big companies that have left after making series I loved...guess it's just a dog eat dog world where these companies play it safe in attempts to stay relevant and afloat...

Perhaps it's time to start ignoring these disappointing big developers and look towards the publishers large and small and look at what they're individually releasing. Unless you hate the stuff they tend to peddle, groups like Atlus seem to keep people regularly happy with far less complaints.

You know what this makes this sound like? Aruze Corp. purchasing SNK and using them for gambling machines instead of video games. Only in this case, it's Konami itself that is interested in breaking away from games to focus more on gambling devices.

It's a shame too, all around. But I figured a lot of those guys will jump ship and be able to find work elsewhere.
Yes, rumors and fluff aside, it's clear as day that this will be the best for Kojima and co.

I think there's an instant red flag that the CEO or whatever is 75 years old. Seems to be one of the biggest problems with Japan in general for gaming/anime... or wait, maybe politics in general... ehhhem, time to move on people, your time is up. lol

So I'll just say that if Konami decides to drop out of the "normal" video game business and double-down on Bemani, I'm pretty comfortable with that.

...I CAN DREAM!

Dear god, I had no idea Konami was THAT bad. It's not a company I really follow, but it seems to be actually way worse than Sega or Square Enix.

He could be on to something though, that instead of issuing a statement that Konami doesn't care about producing games anymore, they'll be silent about it and slowly bleed out their video gaming division.

Those press conferences though, yep, still terribad.

Funny thing is that guy mentions the video that was posted earlier and yeah..that is sad I just hope if they are axeing the video game part of the company they at least give the IPs that people still talk about either as classics or even how they enjoyed the newer ones(though with recent handlings of things that latter one is questionable). I'd hate to see some of their franchises go especially Yugioh(even up they've screwed that one up by delagating it to no story based type deal from what I've seen or had seen until I stopped paying attention to the games because of that)...and heck frogger too because I got a great deal of entertainment out of the 90's pc game(the one that also had a ps1 version which i still have yet to get my hands on because I think I'd rather that version over the pc...). I'd really hate to see some of those key franchises just rot when their video game portion is killed off(if these statements are true which might not be far off)

It's unlikely Konami would be willing to sell or give away any IPs. They're marketable even when they're not being used for video games. Konami will instead use them for merchandising or for other forms of entertainment and consumer electronics, like the Castlevania Pachislot machine:

You shouldn't. Most big Japanese video game companies have their foot in the door of pachinko or pachislots.

Here's an ad for a Street Fighter pachinko machine:

Art of Fighting:

Resident Evil:

Persona 3:

So on and so forth. There is a lot of money to be made in Pachinko, and video game/pinball developers have recognizable IPs and the skillsets necessary to design them.
