Atari ST

Post by Jrecee »

Did anyone have an atari st? My mom bought one at some point in 1990-1991 for music programs and technically I guess it was my first game system. My uncle had one and he'd bring over stacks of copied games, I had Zak Mckrackin, dynamite dux, indiana jones, pacmania and a crapload more. Unfortunately it has since vanished, although I still have almost all of the games (And would imagine there's someway to download games and get them on to floppies to play.

So does anyone know where I could buy one in good condition. . . affordably? I've seen a few on ebay but they don't show up very often and there usually more than I want to spend. Is there any retro computer site that I might be able to get one on? I know they had multiple versions of it, I think mine was one of the latest ones that had the floppy drive built in.

I had (and still have) the by far superior Amiga 600 with the additional memory and a hard drive (80 MEGABYTE BITCHES!).

Null modem cable and Amiga forever is heaven for me. Being able to write .adf images to the floppy drive on my Amiga is priceless.

Ah, I saw the headline and hoped you were selling. I'd try the forums on atariage if you really want one. Shame about the missing computer. My dad gave our Atari 800 away in the early 90s, so I know how that is. I still need to get one so I can play Star Raiders again. (2600 Star Raiders sucks)

Old computers are great fun. Too bad DSDD media is so expensive anymore. I spent $25 on an Apple IIgs, which was a great deal until I had to spend $50 on media!

But Amiga was the by far better choice. The OS was much better and you didn't need to buy an overpriced version for RF modulation so that it would work on a TV.

Then again, they both ran the same games and software so meh.

I recall having ours hooked up to a small tv for a while. I guess it came with that capability since nobody in my house was tech savvy enough to do whatever you were talking about.

When it was out over here I remember my friend having to use a monitor with theirs because it didn't have RF mod. out. I'm sure there was more than one model of it and you had to pay extra. It was one of the reasons we got an Amiga, because it had both. We got the Amiga because we could just use it with the telly until we got a proper monitor for it (that never happened).

I had an Atari St and like most of the machines I chose, it was the underdog. I remeber there being two models - fm and e for enhances although I dont know what was enhanced. I had the fm model and that plugged straight into the TV.

I loved my atari even though those big gay amiga owners taunted me in the playground. Dont tell them that but I think the Amiga did get the better versions of most games, particulary towards the end of its life.

So the amiga was more popular? I always see screens of amiga games on mobygames and assume 90% of the stuff on the atari st was on that too. Can't say I was into computers at that time (I was 5) so I don't know much about them. Would I have better luck tracking down an old amiga? Can you download games and stuff for it?
