Super Double Dragon (SNES)
The only game I rented that I took back the same day after playing it just once.
For me the stages were too long and the action wasn't as crisp or immediate as the first 2 on the NES were. Graphics were nice, but that's about it.
Ehhhh. I enjoyed it. I have it. It does have that classic Rare NES difficulty.MrPopo wrote:Snake Rattle 'n' Roll. That game was based around the Rare design philosophy of the time, which was "if people can see the end we have failed". It's got this weird isometric presentation with very precise platforming and sketchy hit detection. It's amazing to watch a speed run of it, since that seems to be the only way to reliably completely the game, as otherwise all of what is in there will fuck you up.
If that's the reason you don't like shmups, that's a pretty strong statement. I think you may have gotten off on the wrong foot with a not-so-great example.irixith wrote:Silver Surfer, on the NES.
It might actually be the reason why I hate the entire shmup genre. It's such a bad game, I can still feel my childhood rage when I think about it.
But dat Follin/Software Creations music. Made sloshing through it a lot better.
