If it wasn't the pong knockoff, I remember visiting a laundromat that had Mario Bros. Don't even remember if I played, I think I did.

My first game, like many posting here was Combat! on the Atari 2600.

My older brothers let me play that one, driving around. I wasn't very good as the tanks, but I loved the plane modes. I mean, the concept was simple and easy to grasp for 3 year old. One button fires and you can fly around. I didn't mind if I hit anything, just that I was able to manipulate the environment at the push of a button.

There were times when I would play by myself, just moving around and just having fun. It definitely represents one of the two sides of my gaming self. The competitive, fast paced style of game that is absolutely addicting.

I did this an awful lot, too. I especially loved how, on the plane levels, with the screen wrap, you could often find ways to shoot yourself. I got a real kick out of that.

Absolutely! I also had fun hiding in the clouds and guessing where I would come out. Those were the best of times! Oh that game!

The first game I played had to have been Super Mario Bros. for the NES, since that was our family's first console and cart. What's funny is that I don't have strong memories of playing it. I was four years old at the time, and I can distinctly remember my father showing me the box and explaining what the Nintendo Entertainment System could do before it was unveiled to the rest of the family, but I don't remember the unboxing, the set-up, or my own first experience with it. The system was mostly intended for my older brother, and what I do distinctly remember about Mario Bros. was waking up to the distant sound of coins going "pa-king!" in the downstairs living room.

The first game I have memories of actually playing, though, was Tecmo Bowl (high-five, flojocabron!). I was entranced by the opening music, so I "played" it often by myself -- meaning I just turned the system on and let the credits cycle through a bunch of times. My brother also wanted a second player often enough, and he would have me copilot and enter in whatever plays I wanted -- which was, of course, at random. At that age I had no idea what was going on. What my brother and I both appreciated, though, was the fact that the lineman would continue shouting "HUT" if you never snapped the ball. I can remember that we laughed and laughed together over this.

This so much about SMB but 4 for me, oddly though i sank more time into the n64 when we got it especially OoT never did beat it when i was young(kept walking away from the zelda and would come back hours, days or weeks later and would have a weird ureka moment....though ended up with my first smartphone using it to beat it the rest of the way...I'm going to beat it the normal way one of these days). Heck I think I even held more connection to my gbc games I had when I was little. Especially since until now that's all I really had for the system(Pokemon red and yellow, silver was added later but I've lost yellow, hexcite, SMB Deluxe, Quest for Camelot, and Donald Duck Goin' Quackers). I have no clue what ever happened to my copy of hexcite or yellow(since i had it for quite awhile even after joining this site, hexcite though has been long gone and for all I know it was lost during the move years ago to this house I've lived in since middle school...). Though it hurts to look at the prices for yellow just to replace that one

(sorry know I already posted mine but meant to refine it somewhat...)

Well think about it. When we were young, these things were brand spanking new. The idea of manipulating your TV at the push of a button blew everyone's mind. Back in the day, you could play around with a game and push it to its limits, do things beyond what you were supposed to do and just play with the game. It was a glorious time! I wish more games allowed us to do crazy things we aren't supposed to more easily.

I think now those are called glitches though not as interesting as that...now I'm wondering if the atari plug in I have or the one my dad had bought has that game on it, I kinda want to try that now. Though it also seems like back then you also heard of developers really pushing the envelope on what a game is or was(at least that's what I gather from all the conversations heck even some of my games still seem 10x more interesting than some of the modern games just for what some of these developers attempted in that time)
