I originally thought this was a joke list, but then you listed Ultraman and I knew you were serious.Ack wrote:10. Jack Keane 2

Of course it is a real list. Everyone here has heard me rave about the depth of gameplay in Beat 'Em and Eat 'Em. Such a long, hard game that will have you jerking the controller about left and right until the exciting payoff comes...right on your face.MrPopo wrote:I originally thought this was a joke list, but then you listed Ultraman and I knew you were serious.Ack wrote:10. I'm sure there is something else, I just can't think of it right now.
Also, would love to hear why you think Chibi-Robo is the greatest game of all time. That's certainly not something you read every day.

Re: What are your top 10 games of all time?
This sort of topic would be a lot more interesting if people would post even a small sentence per game explaining the key element that makes it one of their favorite games of all time. If you folks are interested in taking that approach than I'll bother posting my personal list and reasons. But if we're just listing games with no supporting information that isn't very conversationally stimulating personally.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: What are your top 10 games of all time?
I've been debating weighing in for a while, because it's going to take me some effort to really pare the list down. I mean, I've played so many fantastic games that it's hard to choose just a top 10.
Still, the easiest one for me to put on the list is Chrono Trigger. There's really not much more I can say about it. If you haven't played it, you need to do so. The brainchild of Yuji Horii, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and Akira Toriyama, it's a game that still has yet to be surpassed in my mind as the best JRPG of all time. It may be my favorite game of all time. It looks great, sounds great (thanks, Mitsuda and Uematsu!), and the battle system is snappy and strategic enough to have some depth without bogging down into the particulars. The story handles time travel about as well as one can (yes, it doesn't make sense, just roll with it), and I'm still partial to Woolsey's SNES translation, but the DS version is still just fine.
Maybe that's a good way for me to resolve this. Pick my favorite RPG, platformer, etc. Still tough to do, though.

You know, you don't hear of people saying that Chibi-Robo is in their top 10 every day, but I must say, it does make mine as well. It has a certain charm and oddness that I love; it is such a wonderfully quirky, fun game. I don't think it has the most replay value, which some find important--I generally don't find this important, because I have only limited time and more games than I ever could play.
How I discovered the game is kind of funny and memorable for me too. My girlfriend (now my wife) and I were in Gamestop, and she came up to me to show me this game she thought was cool (she's not a "gamer", aside from liking Mario somewhat). It was Chibi-Robo and the game was on clearance: $10 new. I thought the game looked kind of dumb, but I loved the Gamecube, so I bought it and we took it home; for a tenner, I thought, "why not?, if it's something she'll actually play". Well, we did play, and played it for days and days together until we had beaten it, which was a lot of fun, and provided many memories that we still share. So, maybe a bit of rose-colored glasses and nostalgia are involved with my opinion of the game, but I still think it is deserving.
Oh, by the way: my personal Top 10, in no order:
Super Metroid
Super Mario Bros 3
Chibi-Robo (for Gamecube)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Half-Life (#1)
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Baldur's Gate (#1)
Unreal Tournament 2004
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (N64)

Chibi Robo is interesting and artistic but I can't say I had a lot of fun playing it past the initial novelty. It's quite charming though.
