What was the first game you remember playing?
Inspired by a good topic on the most recent Collectorcast, what was the first video game you remember playing?
Mine were: Breakout and Super Challenge Baseball on the 2600

Super Mario Bros 3...for some odd reason my dad loved pulling out this cart when I younger...though I don't recall if he or I ever beat the game. Might be one I get to soon...maybe

For me it would be Tecmobowl on the NES
My brothers friend would bring his NES when he would stay the night. I would watch them play it over and over and I would give it a try too, but I had no idea how to play football, let alone videogame football.
But he did have two other games, Gyruss and Mario/duckhunt. When they weren't playing football, I would take a crack at Mario and Duckhunt and shoot badguys in Gyruss.
Although I do have a soft spot for Tecmobowl, I am not a sports gamer at all for some reason.

ET on Atari 2600.
I was off to a good start. My dad's friend owned it.
After that it was Golden Age arcade games (Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, etc) at the local sub shops and pizza parlors and edutainment (Number Munchers, Oregon Trail) in elementary school.
At some point I played Vs. Super Mario Bros. in the arcades. This is what made me want to have access to video games in my own home. Eventually got an NES w/ Super Mario Bros. and the rest is history.

Munch Man on the TI-99/4A. We returned that thing shortly after getting it and went with an Atari 2600 instead. I played lots of Combat...

Donkey Kong Country. The gap you have to jump over near the exit of the first level seemed HUGE to me as a kid in 1994, especially as my parents had a big projector CRT TV in the basement where they played this on. I died countless times trying to get over it.
Later on I was shocked at how small it was versus how I remembered it.

Back then I also used to pause the game and just listen to the music and be absolutely mesmerized (eg. the K. Rool Fight). Dave Wise is the bomb.
The first game I remember SEEING was Duck Hunt/Super Mario Bros. My parents used to play (now they don't get anywhere NEAR video games).

Re: What was the first game you remember playing?

Combat on the Atari 2600, followed by the other 20-or-so games my parents had at the time. I can remember Barnstorming, Pitfall, Vanguard, Berzerk, Super Breakout, Circus Atari, E.T., Donkey Kong, Kangaroo, Q*Bert, Turmoil, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Riddle of the Sphinx, Atlantis, Spider Fighter, Video Pinball, Asteroids and Popeye along with a few sports games. I definitely played a lot of Combat and Fishing Derby at my cousin's house.
Another cousin had a NES which of course made me beg for that.

I remember playing Super Mario Bros. until I had blisters on my thumbs. After that, I played Oregon trail on the school's Apple ][e

River Raid on the 2600 probably. Now get off my lawn.
