Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
so do the Mass Effect games play like the Dragon Age games? Like, do they have similar battle systems?
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Not at all. The Mass Effect games are third person shooters. The RPG elements give you special abilities or damage boosts on your damage/tightening up bullet spread.

Feels pretty separate to me, but I played DA on PC and Mass Effect on console. Console uses a standard wheel for powers and whatnot.noiseredux wrote:so do the Mass Effect games play like the Dragon Age games? Like, do they have similar battle systems?
My recommendation is to play the games in order (which I'm sure you already plan on doing) as the systems change a lot over the course of the series which may make going back to older games difficult.

Battle system, no, not really, though DAII and Inquisition aren't exactly the same as Origins either. ME (on PC at least) does still do the space bar to pause deal, and some classes have options beyond just shooting - Adept has CC/DoT type stuff for example. It's a third person cover shooter, sure, but it's not just playing Gears of War in between cutscenes.noiseredux wrote:so do the Mass Effect games play like the Dragon Age games? Most of Bioware's games are fairly similar with respect to other structure, like having hub areas to talk to followers, good/evil options to pick from, and so on. Jade Empire is more or less a beat em up for combat.
Some of it would feel familiar, some of it not, coming from Dragon Age. On the flip side, you play the same woman (or guy, you know...if you want...
If you want something like Origins/Awakening, you might try Neverwinter Nights 2. It's a tad more complicated, but it's somewhat similar.

yeah, I basically played Origins because I'd like to eventually play Inquisition. Haha.Stark wrote: My recommendation is to play the games in order (which I'm sure you already plan on doing) as the systems change a lot over the course of the series which may make going back to older games difficult.
Cool. I love that!isiolia wrote: Battle system, no, not really, though DAII and Inquisition aren't exactly the same as Origins either. ME (on PC at least) does still do the space bar to pause deal,
This also intrigues me.On the flip side, you play the same woman (or guy, you know...if you want...) for the entire series, so decisions you make have more of a direct impact in the next game.
Honestly, I'm planning to continue w/ the DA series, as I really really loved the first game. Planning to pick up Awakening soon.If you want something like Origins/Awakening, you might try Neverwinter Nights 2. It's a tad more complicated, but it's somewhat similar.
But I was mostly asking as the idea of possibly alternating between the DA and ME series seemed sort of interesting to me as well.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
IMO you should do this. Mass Effect is a vast and interesting universe, with tons of fascinating characters, and you should definitely experience it. Also, personally to me I find Sci-Fi to be much more interesting.noiseredux wrote: But I was mostly asking as the idea of possibly alternating between the DA and ME series seemed sort of interesting to me as well.

I do too. I think that's why I put off DA for so long. I actually figured I'd play the ME games first. But man, I just fell in love w/ that world and those characters.Stark wrote: Also, personally to me I find Sci-Fi to be much more interesting.

Yeah, your journey has made me want to go back and finish Origins, but I fear that would mean actually restarting completely, because I lost my save file.noiseredux wrote:I do too. I probably did a bad job of going into the details that show how the combat is not just Gears. The Soldier is probably the closest to your standard cover shooter, but you expect that going in. The Tech and Biotic classes are more of your casters, and then there's three classes which mix and match two of the base classes. I'm not really familiar with how the handle in practice because I rolled Soldier, but I do know they have very spell-like abilities.
