Who are to referencing here? I couldn't care less if everyone hated BBT and it got cancelled immediately. I was just clowning. I don't even watch the show. I'm as relaxed as a cucumber Mikey.mjmjr25 wrote:Hatred/Hate --- / Hating...not the same. Relax. "Hating" on something is looking unfavorably on something - which is something we all do. That's what she said.
Dave started with that, now my inner child can't stop.
Anyway, mellow mushroom work for you? I would say cool as a cucumber but I'm in FL so it'd be a lie.

I used to hate Big Bang Theory and didn't know why. Then I figured out why. Anyone who has seen any of Disney Channel or Nickelodeon's "sitcoms" from the last decade will see an immediate resemblance to Big Bang Theory. The over saturated color palette. The "saying something loud" = "joke" formula. The characters that have been dragged into the furthest stretches of cartoonyness. It's the same. Take out a few of the adult jokes and make the characters 15 years younger, and it would air on a kids network.
I personally don't agree with the blackface nerd comparison or the idea that it is making fun of nerds for non-nerds though.
I think it's just dumb.

It's just plain dumb. I gave up on watching the show years ago. I can't stand to sit through a single episode.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I wanted to chime in earlier but I was tight on time.
Given that I asked Popo and Dave to expand on why they didn't like BBT,
here is my point of view.
I wouldn't go as far as saying it is blackface for nerds, but I think there is a significant part of the show that does laugh "at them" rather than "with them", and that makes me rather uncomfortable. Almost every episode (if not every episode) there are parts when it really seems to me they are making fun of characters when they shouldn't, and this is part of why that laugh track and the surrounding "wait for the laugh track" acting is awful (because without it, the show could portray the situation genuinely without having the laugh track pass it off as funny or something to laugh at).
There are plenty of exaggerated stereotypes in the series but it is also clear to me that the writers knew someone who they based parts of the characters on, because some things are actually rather genuine (I vaguely remember reading that the show creators knew someone with most of the traits that they then exaggerate and divide into more than one of the characters, but I may have imagined that; in terms of the science they have a consultant who checks that stuff so that it is mostly genuine).
Beyond the discomfort that is present, there are some moments in the series which I find really, really good (and not just funny). These have kept me watching it and I think in general it is doing more good than harm. Its a shame that it isn't a better series but maybe it it was it wouldn't be nearly as popular.
In terms of funniest moment for me personally was...
As far as other sitcoms are concerned, I liked "How I met your mother" a lot.
Although I didn't like it as much as How I met your mother, "Arrested development" seemed to be very well made and in some instances I laughed a lot there. It was really packed with content.
I enjoyed the Office US, I didn't like the UK version as much although I think the UK version was "better" in some artistic sense I can't qualify very well but maybe someone who has watched both may know what I'm trying to convey there.

I think Big Bang Theory is dumb, so I don't watch it.
The people who act like it's some horrible affront to geekdom are thinking about it too hard and giving it too much credit. It's too generic and stupid to be offensive. So what if a dumb show references things you like?
It's just a lame sitcom like all the lame sitcoms that came before it and it'll fade into obscurity eventually.
Speaking of sitcoms that pander to my demographic I actually do enjoy The Goldbergs.
