Here, TSTR, I'll give you a taste of what I do all day.

I just flagged the death of Bruce Wayne's parents in Batman Begins as the perfect place for a life insurance ad.

I think most of the audience still wants to hear "The Tape".

TWINS

I love this movie for so many reasons, but mainly for the fact for how off the wall it is. It is very, very silly and doesn't care how silly it is. How silly is it? Silly to the point that when people get shot their only reaction is to repeat the word "ow!" with an indoor voice. Fairly certain that someone would say more than "ow" if they were shot.

This isn't a review, but there are some things I want to point out as I find them of interest. First, the product placement in TWINS is amazing. I couldn't keep count of how many Johnson & Johnson brands are featured. May have been coincidence, maybe not, but either way it's almost fun trying to keep count of how many products are featured in this film. My favorite product by far in this film is Aqua Velva.

Not sure if Arnold's care taker is the scary German guy from Monster Squad, but he sure does sound like him. However I do know that the nun that looked over DeVito also played Happy Gilmore's Mother. There's also a super obese woman in one of the first shots in the film, which is weird as she is never explained. Moving on...

TWINS has a great 80's vibe to it, ya know, because it is from the 80's. Mustang 5.0. Car phones. Playboy magazines. Born to be Bad T-Shirts. There's also a scene in a grocery store where it appears Linda and Marnie share a joint. Or maybe just a cigarette. Either way they're smoking in a grocery store.

Speaking of Marnie...

Hubba hubba. Possibly the horniest vixen in any movie I've ever seen. She doesn't just throw herself at Arnold, she lunges at him. Love me some Marnie.

At last we have the one-liners:

No yodeling.

It's his first T-Shirt.

Cookies. I can't wait to toss them.

How can bull shit walk?

He's my brother.

Duck.

TWINS is streaming on Netflix so do yourself a favor and watch it again, or if you've never watched it before, you're in for a treat.

I find it odd that what they probably perceive as their target audience actually has a distaste for the show.
Because nerd culture isnt really the target audience. It is more like haha look at these nerds! They cant even get laid amirite? hahaha. Look how ridiculous thes guys are with their manchild toys and video games!

Some jokes are funny at times, but they do the same ones over and over.
I don't know, the guys do alright. Certainly it started with that premise, but then there are Bernadette, Penny, Amy, and I think I saw Raj with a steady. There have been several between as well. I also don't see them as making fun of nerds, so much as poking fun at things they might relate with.

Of course, that doesn't mean it's good television.

I like the Big Bang Theory. I think a lot of people who hate it do because it hits so close home. I've known nerds and geeks in real life...and while the show certainly exaggerates their negative qualities (as many comedy shows do), their portrayals are not that far off the mark.

It's equal opportunity though, I mean you look as how the show makes fun of jock/cheerleader types. I mean Penny is pretty much your high school cheerleader airhead, and her boyfriends have all been portrayed as complete, fucking morons. So the show doesn't just poke fun at nerds.

It's not much different than what Married with Children was, a show based on stereotypes, some of which do have some basis in reality but were HIGHLY exaggerated by the show. Course Married with Children was far, far, FAR more cartoonish and wacky in nature than the Big Bang Theory is.

And they do a lot of cool references on the show that geeks/nerds will get and praise a lot of things that nerds/geeks love. It's actually impressive for a show that has such mass market appeal to often reference things that only a small niche will get. I mean 90% of people who watch the show probably don't know what the fuck Firefly is or who Joss Whedon is even though they've probably all seen The Avengers. Not to mention the science stuff they talk about.

Still, high brow minded people will always hate the Big Bang Theory, which if fine. It's not meant to be the smartest comedy on TV (hence, its immense ratings). We have shows like South Park, Louie C.K., Community etc. for that.

I can enjoy those shows but still get a kick out of The Big Bang Theory. Plus, it's easier for me to actually find people to watch it with since it's so popular.

Isn't that the movie where the guy gets romantic notions about nature and decides to try and be a survivalist completely unprepared and dies ignobly in the wilderness when someone more competent would have gotten out safely?
Yes you have the gist of it, and it's a true story. He starved to death. His last written words were "Beautiful blueberries." Shitty way to die. But I'm sure the movie captures his noble intent and makes it seem like an existentially enlightening sacrifice or whatever.
But it's not a sacrifice. It's some idiot who gets himself killed through being stupid. I'm not running down his wanting to live simply, but if you're going to abandon the trappings of society you better do some real research how to do so first.
The movie doesn't deny he made choices that led to his own demise. What led to his death wasn't even the dumbest thing he did. He ate one set of poisonous berries that looked very similar to another set of edible berries, which made him sick and expedited his starvation. That's an understandable mistake. He does much crazier things like kayaking through rapids without training, walking through a creek in the dead of winter without a change of clothes, and burning up all his cash so as to not be burdened by it any longer just before he sets out on a cross-country trek through the Southwest to Alaska. His foolhardiness is what makes him a fascinating character though. He bumbles his way through the wild and his willingness to do things that a more civilized person would never do make him seem all the more wild, adventurous, and committed to his personal ideals of freedom and naturalism. It's not fair to call him an idiot. He makes mistakes, but he adapts. He just abides by a different plan, which is one that finds society to be a cage and nature to be a source of freedom. I am sure he would think that all of us sitting on cushy office chairs and judging him through computer monitors are living life in a much more idiotic way. I would be inclined to agree.

Just to be clear; you're saying that you'd be inclined to agree that everyone should abandon society and technology, and live free in wild nature? Is that what you are saying is the non-idiotic thing to do?

You are way over thinking the hate.

The hate comes from a horrid laugh track at jokes that just aren't funny, clever, or witty.

The hate comes actors doing these repetitive / no range wide-eyed stares as they try to deliver deadpan comedy and then they wait and stare as that hideous laugh track overwhelms the next 7 seconds of the viewers time...as they are sitting there in awe, wondering why both the actor and the producers hammed up this "joke".

The hate comes from the above scenario playing itself out over and over for 22 minutes.

The hate comes from knowing some of your friends; people you think are funny and intelligent people admitting they like this show and then you are left questioning, maybe this person isn't as funny and intelligent as I thought. *cue 7 second boisterous laugh track and imagine me staring off to the left, not smiling, as if i'm waiting for your laughter yet acting as though i'm unsure why you'd be laughing*
