Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It was only a small window of cheapness for PS1. All the best games were rising in price until they started releasing large quanities of them on PSN in like '08 or '09, which dropped a lot of prices. Remember when FFVII would sell for $70 on the regular?GSZX1337 wrote:At least there were those days. This is one of the reasons I am withdrawing from retro-gaming. Part of the reason I was into it because games were cheap. You could play really fun games at cheap prices ($3-5). Once a retro-game price is higher than a brand new Triple A title it means it just crossed the border into "collectable" territory.
One thing I would like to know, 10 years later of release, how many units of any 1 game is still in working condition. For example Zelda 64 sold 8m I believe. I would really like to know by 2008 how many of those units are still around.

Much like the SNES the past couple of years, the kids who grew up playing the N64/PS1 are getting jobs and are wanting to relive their youths. Pretty soon, they will be buying all those games once again. So, the days of 'cheap' N64 or PS1 games are going to be over rather quickly.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
On the topic of the rising N64 prices, that is absolutely right...holy smoke. My local retro game store had 64 games like Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie on sale for prices around $8-$15 which aren't crazy prices. A month or so ago, they have them now at $24-$30. The prices are on the rise! So grab them for cheap while you can at any flea market, garage sale or craigslist.

In 2010, the average price for an N64 game online was $6. It's nearly $12 now.BogusMeatFactory wrote:On the topic of the rising N64 prices, that is absolutely right...holy smoke. That said, my Sculptor's Cut has quadrupled in price, so I'm sitting pretty. Somehow Ogre Battle 64 has remained relatively static.
Still a great time to be buying PS2 games, fellas.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'm still in it for sure but since last summer when things seemed to really dry up and be overrun by people that seem to do nothing but eat, sleep, and breathe buying games, I've learned to be okay with my collection. I'm lucky I got back into it when I did and at least managed to garner a nice little collection of most systems I like.RCBH928 wrote:Soldier Blue wrote:Wow, I just sold Smash Bros. for the N64 for $64. I actually don't mind the prices and interest going up as much as I do how overboard people are going. There are people on a Facebook group I belong to that will regularly post finds consisting of two dozen original Xbox games or something, and it's 90% garbage, but it doesn't matter. They just buy everything in sight. There are also people doing it as a business, which simply can't be worth it. There's one guy who pulls good stuff all the time, but he's all over the place every day of the week. How the hell is he paying for insurance? More to the point, how the hell is he profiting THAT much? Everyone has their own prerogative, but it's frustrating when you're missing out on everything just because you simply have to go to work.
If me and 20 other like-minded people go to a flea market and they beat me to everything, that's fine. A lot of people are having yard sales that start on Friday. I can't make it to those until everything's gone and that's just life, but the irrational obsession some people have admittedly really gets on my nerves.

OB64 had gone up a bunch. 4-5 years ago carts were 25ish. CIB has seen the biggest increaseAck wrote:In 2010, the average price for an N64 game online was $6. Yeah, but it's gone down a lot too over the last decade. Ogre Battle has entered the $40+ range in 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, and 2015, and with the exception of 2015(so far), it has swung back down into at least the mid $30s every time. It recently reached its highest point a month or so ago, but the price has again decreased a bit. Maybe the trend will continue.Jmustang1968 wrote:OB64 had gone up a bunch. 4-5 years ago carts were 25ish.
