I very much enjoy the Star Wars trailers because they don't show everything. The new Jurassic World trailer just came out today and it literally tells you the plot, step by step. Killed my excitement...although I will still see it, I kind of know what happens now.marurun wrote:I do not know why everyone is raving so much over the Star Wars teasers and trailers (beyond that it's Star Wars). They honestly are not giving us very much information. Much better quality than the Fantastic 4 and especially the Batman v Superman ones, but still not all that much to get worked up about. Frankly, I think Marvel has trailers down pretty well at this point. They seem to be doing a much better job giving us actual information about what to expect from their movies.

Because most Marvel trailers are probably better than the end product?marurun wrote:I do not know why everyone is raving so much over the Star Wars teasers and trailers (beyond that it's Star Wars). The first teaser told the plot. There's a genetically engineered dinosaur and it gets out. It's trivial to construct a narrative just from that information.BogusMeatFactory wrote:I very much enjoy the Star Wars trailers because they don't show everything. Yeah the second trailer though..tells you everything that dinosaur does from beginning to end. I know where it goes, what it does to cause problems and everyone's reactions in sequence.MrPopo wrote:The first teaser told the plot. There's a genetically engineered dinosaur and it gets out. Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
It doesn't so much matter if you know the core story. It's how it's told that counts. The Marvel trailers are really good at communicating to me the atmosphere of the movie. Even if I don't like the movie much, I feel like I know what I'm getting into and I can just sit back and enjoy the ride (or complain, if it's a Thor movie.)
I don't like this plot/spoiler paranoia that's going 'round. I think people overstate how spoilers affect them. So far, what research has been done in the area suggests that spoilers enhance the experience by heightening expectations for most folks. A study done back in 2011 showed that, on the whole, folks who had stories spoiled for them actually reported enjoying the stories more that those who went in cold.

I am the opposite in that regard. I have had spoilers hype me up and then the movie ended up not meeting lofty expectations.
Some of my favorite movies have been those I knew little about and was treated to an experience I wasnt expecting due to little or no pre-conceived expectations. I sometimes think I like these more than I should.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
It really depends on how they treat those spoilers. Like I said, getting told a step by step rundown of what is going to happen in the movie does kind of ruin a small amount of my enjoyment. The movie is supposed to be a mindless entertainment experience and part of that fun is being surprised with the over the top situations. I like the vague nature of a trailer that makes you wonder what is happening. The first trailer captured that and the second is just a bit overdone.
It doesn't really ruin anything I guess, it just lowers my hype until I see the film.

They still haven't spoiled the part where Rocket and Gamora swoop in to save Chris Pratt and the kids as they're cornered by the new dinosaur with no way to escape.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Well, and keep in mind, the trailer can also tell you important things about the tenor of the film. For example, right now, I'm very afraid that Batman v. Superman is going to horrendously suck. That's what I get from the trailer material. Maybe the trailer is cut badly. I hope it is.
I do get some of the nostalgia from the Star Wars trailer. I do expect the new film to be more entertaining and less frustrating than the prequels, but I don't feel like I have had enough expectations set. A trailer is, in some ways, like a promise. I'm having trouble trying to figure out what commitment Star Wars is trying to make just yet.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I thought the Batman V Superman trailer was so somber and dark that it reached the point of satire.
I am a Star Wars fan, and the new trailer looks promising. But after the disappointment of Eps. 1, 2, and 3... I'm withholding any hype feelings. I'd love to be blown away by Ep. 7 though don't get me wrong.
