My favorite version is the Arcade version on Naomi in a Arcade cabinet.

However a Dreamcast or Xbox 360 hooked in a Arcade cab is sufficient.

Ill break it down like this

Xbox 360: Best graphics , Online play , CHEAP
Gamecube: Blurred graphics, Only USA physical release
Dreamcast: ARCADE PERFECT, Japan ONLY, EXPENSIVE , no ANALOG

I like playing my Dreamcast version in the Arcade cabinet the best.

Played the 360 version once.

Currently have the DC version on a compilation disc that I DL'ed off the 'net. Actually, I have TWO DC compilation discs with this game. One is a shooter pack and the other is a Capcom fighting game pack.

I see DC Ikaruga goes for over 100 on ebay- is that the best price I can find other than downloading it? I don't know how to burn a disc yet, and I rather like the box art...

I snagged a complete Dreamcast copy off ebay for about $60.

My buddy has a copy for his Gamecube. I wouldn't say the graphics are blurred. It was rigged up to his humongous (Dont know the exact size) tv, and looked great.
I do believe that, Dreamcast with a VGA is the way to go ultimately.

Get DiscJuggler. It takes a while to get right, but once you do, you'll question buying real copies.

I play the DC on a tate VGA monitor. It's freaking beautiful.

I do own the GC version, it's looks about the same on s-video as the DC version does on s-video, but the VGA is unbeatable.

on a related note, i finally piloted a No-Miss clear for all of Easy mode. Not the most impressive score (14,626,980) but I'll probably never no-miss the whole game again.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

I never got Disc Juggler to work, actually. I just used Nero 7 and DAEMON Tools. Load the image with DAEMON into the virtual drive, and tell Nero 7 to copy, somewhere at 4x. (The lowest speed my DVD-RW drive can muster.)

I have only played the DC version of Ikaruga. I've seen the GC and 360 version in action, and saw no difference. I'd assume all it comes down to is the controller, and I have X-Arcade for my DC. It's all good.

As for wanting the box art...http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=7161

The 360 version has some differences in the game for no particular reason, so even though it's hd and has all the nice online stuff I'd rank it as the worst. As far as I can tell the gc and dc games are pretty much the same, I prefer using the dreamcast controller so IMO tht's the best version to play.
I've seen the dc version for around $90 if you keep an eye out you probably can get it a bt cheaper. Now if you do try to burn a copy (which I'd do before spending $100 on it), I'd strongly suggest to not even attempt to use discjuggler. It's outdated, takes a lot of fiddling and is totally unnecessary. Get either nero or alcohol 120% and burn it on a slow speed just lke you would any other disc image. It'll work just fine.

Why is this game is really expensive (new) on dreamcast
and why every one is going nuts over it

honestly, i got it off the internet , I ran it , its good shooter
I just don't see whats so special that no other shooter can mimic

plus, shooters are too complex and difficult(few lives) to continue

i guess its old school, the type where you have only 8 levels but
your eyes would pop out because you have to do all the timing and
no mistakes
