^ I've considered getting that for her. But you probably know how little kids can get (irrationally) attached to certain things. She probably wouldn't give up the regular SMS controller.

So, retro gaming can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

I have a small collection of Commodore 64 games: 40-ish carts and floppies. Mostly action games and arcade ports. I decided it was time to get my first C64 RPG. It arrived today, from an eBay seller.

Now I have four - yes, four - Commodore 64 floppy disk drives. You know what three of them do? Jack shit. They don't work. They're paperweights. Someone smart could conceivably repair them. I am not that person.

The fourth drive works like a charm. So smooth, so sexy, so silent. The issue is that it's an aftermarket 3rd party drive and seems to have about a 90% compatibility rate (give or take) with these old floppy games. The game I purchased won't load on this drive. Well the first disk (boot) does but the second (scenario) doesn't. Even a directory search fails. In theory the disk could be DOA, but I have no "real" drive to test it with so I can't be 100% certain.

Oh and the game apparently requires two blank floppies to run anyway. Wanna guess how many blank 5.25" disks I have laying around? Here's a hint: it's a number between -1 and 1.

That's the primary reason I haven't bothered trying to collect for retro computers. I'd probably go mad.

It must be cool to have parents who video game with you. I bet Bone's daughter will look back on these memories as fondly as I remember my mother's sitting with me and watching the endings of games I'd just beaten for the first time.

*spends the better part of two hours assembling a killer Protoss army to destroy the opposing Protoss' Nexus*
*killer army easily levels everything between it and the opposing Nexus*
Well shit, I could've done that in half the time.

Didn't notice LEGO was getting into the sky lander style figurine/portal setup. Looks interesting though could definitely see it working pretty well.

Sounds interesting to say the least, but man these figurine centered games are starting to seem a little cluttered...I mean skylanders, amiibo, disney infinity, and now lego(and I'm sure I've missed one). I'm trying to resist the urge to jump in on all except amiibo(which I've been meaning to pick up a few just haven't gotten around to it)

The fact that it introduced Lego Wizard of Oz is even more exciting to me. Please let that be released as a standalone.

The original Game Boy was first released on April 21, 1989 in Japan.

Today is its birthday.

Happy 26th birthday, my old friend.

It's why I mostly stick to carts. I never plan to get floppy drives for my Atari 600XL or TI-99/4A, for instance. But my Tandy Color Computer and C64 both came with 'em so I'm rolling with it. Sort of.

Hopefully!

And I'm glad I have enough simplistic retro games to get her started off right.

And the Pico.

EDIT: My daughter just told me the laughing face above "looks like Pac-Man."
