It gets a lot slower once you get Flammie.

you were making a... joke?BoneSnapDeez wrote:There aren't any shields in Secret of Mana. Just armor, arm guards, and headgear.
That's what we're talking about, right?

Played this for a few hours tonight, beat Spikey Tiger who might actually be the hardest boss in the game. Way overpowered for that early in the game.
I stand by my opinion that this is the most flawed "great" game on the Super Nintendo. The ring menu sounds good on paper but in execution it's so clumsy. Also the damage traps in this game... brutal. I made the mistake of getting trapped in that room with the three chairs in the Haunted Forest, I had NO chance. But then I suppose it works both ways since you can abuse the hell out of the magic system since you have to pause the game to use it.
That can all be easily forgiven though, because the presentation in this game is sooooo so good. Best sound design of any SNES game - even the sound of just swinging the sword and cutting the grass is mega satisfying. (Of course I stopped to cut the grass every time I saw it.) And the great THWACK sound you get when you hit those sleeping guards on the way to the Dwarf Village, so nice.

He's definitely the hardest boss, but I think half his difficulty comes from being forced to use shitty ranged weapons for a good chunk of the fight (no upgrade orbs like your melee weapons at that point). The other half is from his high level fire magic.SNESdrunk wrote:Played this for a few hours tonight, beat Spikey Tiger who might actually be the hardest boss in the game. I absolutely murdered that tiger that time around, but I was likely overleveled a bit. Also had a full stash of candy and chocolate. This is one of those games that gets easier as you progress due to the amount of magic available and how easy it is to abuse the magic system.
Spiky Tiger may be the hardest boss on paper, but the final boss of the game is actually my least favorite. It's such an awkward and tedious fight.

Plus you have to level up that dumbass brand of magic that's useless in any other part of the gameBoneSnapDeez wrote:Spiky Tiger may be the hardest boss on paper, but the final boss of the game is actually my least favorite. It's such an awkward and tedious fight.

This. I reamed every boss in Secret of Mana when I blazed through it, but the final boss fight was a pain because of how awkward it is.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Spiky Tiger may be the hardest boss on paper, but the final boss of the game is actually my least favorite. First time I beat the game I used NO magic at the final boss.SNESdrunk wrote:Plus you have to level up that dumbass brand of magic that's useless in any other part of the gameBoneSnapDeez wrote:Spiky Tiger may be the hardest boss on paper, but the final boss of the game is actually my least favorite.
