That's more like it. Carry on.

I do not either. I watched the original series and some extra stuff in the franchise but it was pretty much torture for me. The aesthetics were great, but the plot wasn't engaging (with glacial pacing) and the main protagonist was a panty waste.
Happy to see I'm not the only one that thinks this. I watched it wayyy back when and didn't understand the big deal, tried watching it again about a year ago and couldn't get through 6 episodes.
We would all be great friends.

Man, considering how beloved it is, I feel like I hear people ragging on Evangelion (and specifically Shinji) more often than not. But I think it's a phenomenally powerful show. Shinji really reflects what it feels like to be deeply depressed. He isn't a likeable hero but I can at least relate to his feelings and experiences from periods in my own life. And I love how the show reveals the flaws and pains held by the other characters while maintaining a sort of subtlety. Yet among the subtle and depressing character drama is exciting mecha-action! IMO it all combines well into something that is thoughtful and reflective, while still being engrossing to watch.

Even though the end is derided as being a "they ran out of money" ending, it still completely works in a profoundly unique and creative way. Just showing storyboards and the script of the episode? I see this brilliantly works to cause the viewer to reflect upon their experience of watching anime and what their expectations of this kind of a show might be. The movie The End of Evangelion does things very differently but is also amazing. I have high hopes for where the reboot series might go, whenever that finishes up! (And even though I'm normally not one to "double dip" I can totally see myself rebuying the series on Blu-Ray if it gets a US release. I would especially love to see Death & Rebirth and End of Evangelion remastered.)

I totally get what Evangelion was trying to do, I just never liked watching it. From a critical standpoint I completely understand why people hold it in high esteem it's just not my kind of entertainment.

I have been in and out of massive depression and I never once felt like Shinji Ikari. Even if I was literally about to slit my wrists I would still take time out to punch that emo brat in the face.

Lol, hey man. I put Seed & Seed Destiny, Gundam 00, 08th MS Team, and Zeta Gundam before I would say Wing. :P Oh! and Gundam Unicorn

OK, so I finally finished FLCL;

It was pretty good. Even though I get the symbolism, the plot still makes 0 sense, if you don't look at it in a symbolic way. It's really odd, confuses me, and makes me question reality.....but I still love it.

My only real complaint, is that the sexual humor gets a smidge uncomfortable, around Episode 4 or 5. But otherwise, I liked it.

8/10 for sure.

Now I'm starting Puella Magi Madoka Magica, as a friend of mine is hardcore into it, and I want to see what the fuss is all about. It looks a lot like Black Rock Shooter (atmosphere-wise), and I liked BRS, so I'll probably like this one.

Also need to get my butt back in gear, and finish Cowboy Bebop, and Attack on Titan, because I've only seen the first episode of Bebop, and the first two episodes of AoT, and I've been meaning to finish them. Especially bad, when you consider I already have the entirety of Cowboy Bebop on DVD, so there's really no excuse as to why I haven't finished it yet. lol
This user really likes SEGA Saturn. Avoid at all costs.

Quite a few anime I need to catch up on this season seems to be a few gems mixed in.

Impressions so far:

1. Shokugeki no Soma - This is my favorite new anime right now. It just has a lot of passion/energy, and it's really upbeat. Never imagined I would be this much into a cooking anime  . Only I'm not super into is it can get a little to pervy at times when characters are reacting to the food  .

2, Owari no Seraph - Really liked the first episode and the story/action seems good. Characters are also interesting but aside from the main they haven't really been fleshed out much yet. My interest is starting to wain a little bit though 3 episodes in. I'm just not feeling the energy I expected from this show, but hopefully that changes over the next few episodes.

3. Triage X - Starting to loose interest in this one as well way to much focus on giant boobs and action sequences. Story seems to get pushed to the side way to often and there isn't much interesting character development.

Just started Gunslinger Stratos: The Animation first episode seems pretty solid although what actually is going on is kind of vague at the end. Kind of got a Enders Game vibe from the future setting at the beginning especially since the school featured a training arena. Looks like it's going to throw in some interesting twists with time travel and possibly parallel worlds while having a nice amount of combat mixed in.

I feel ya man. I just can't stand the protagonist of this series.

Been a while since I posted here. Been watching and re-watching a lot of Studio Ghibli films recently. The last time I saw them was when I was a child and too young to really remember them.

The two I saw most recently were Howls Moving Castle and The Tale of Princess Kaguya.

From what I understand Howls Moving Castle is typically considered one of the weaker Ghibli films, with a common criticism being that the plot is hard to follow. That's why I was very pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed this film as much as I did. I didn't find the plot confusing at all. If anything didn't add up then it must have flown over my head and gone unnoticed. Not a lot I can say about this that can't be said about any Ghibli Film (at least of the ones I've seen so far). It's got beautiful artwork, a fantastic world for the story to take place in, charming characters, and it moves at a perfect pace. It's everything I love about Studio Ghibli.

Now as for The Tale of Princess Kaguya, I'm honestly not sure what kind of category this movie fits in. I suppose it's a tragedy mixed with some kind of moral lesson story for kids? I'm not sure. To be honest this movie, which I only watched today, is the closest so far a Ghibli film has gotten to losing me. Not because I didn't enjoy it, but because I couldn't shake this nagging feeling that the plot didn't seem to be moving along like it should. It didn't feel like enough was actually happening which had any bearing on the finale of the whole story. And I don't know, I'm no expert with these things, maybe I'm too caught up in the traditional idea of how one tells a story and that's making me miss the point. Either way though, I'm glad to say I still enjoyed the movie over all. It was fun, and beautiful in more ways than one. By the end I felt like I had really gotten to know Kaguya well as a person, which is hard for most movies or video games to do for me.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Oh man. I saw kaguya in theatres when it came out and really enjoyed it. I've always been much more fond of Takahata than Miyazaki. Takahata is a very different type of director that's for sure. I know my best friend can't stand any of his films.
