I was going to question this also and say something like "just use a mouse then....?", but i could see using the steam controller as something for the couch with still having some mouse feel.

I havent used a steam controller and doesnt look very appealing but maybe itll be useful.

Maybe Forlorn and I are thinking of different games, but when I play a mouse heavy game (like an FPS or RTS title), I don't want to be leaning back on the couch. I want to get in the game's face and sit forward in my office chair.

Or utilize modern mouse technology and use the mouse on the couch, like I do. With the right sensitivity settings in game you can do just fine in a fast paced FPS.

Or, develop the first couch-mouse, wherein the entire couch is the mouse.

Those who play retro-consoles(pre-Dreamcast) on HDTV, are you happy with the picture?

I really love my 64 but I got no place for a CRT. I hooked it up, it looks good but somehow I feel like I am getting an altered picture from what it supposed to be. Maybe the blacks are washed out a bit?

Yeah, modern tvs tend to upscale 240i/240p games in weird ways. There's no cheap solution.

This video shows one of the best ways to get your old games looking nice on a HDTV, but it's going to cost you a small fortune to do so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43dzrCAfU3A

The thing about the N64 is that it's blurry as hell, and that really hurts when trying to play it on an HDTV. The Framemeister helps a lot, but it's still a blurry picture. I'm not a fan of scanlines, I keep them turned off, but I've found that scanlines area a must for the N64. The scanlines help to hide how shitty the picture is.

Mostly because I want couch play. I know there are mouses that could be well utilized, but if I'm using a mouse at all, it is likely I'll have to use a keyboard with it, which is still an issue for me due to the stuff with my hand.

I like being open and available when I game anyways. I've noticed that people don't engage me when I'm on my PC in any form, including gaming. When I'm playing on a console, people freely talk to me, or whatever. That's a thing for me, because, well, ya'll know I don't get much social contact, so I like to be as open as possible at all times.

Yeah, I looked into this a lot a year or two ago. My solution was a combination of buying a CRT and learning to love emulation.

@Steam Controller Discussion - I am very much looking forward to the Steam Controller and I hope it is a good mouse substitute. Due to an old wrist fracture, mouse and keyboard gaming can be very uncomfortable for me after an hour or so. Personally, I will use it sitting at my computer if it works well!
