Shuddering picture on Sony Trinitron
Shuddering picture on Sony Trinitron
Hello I just bought a Sony Trinitron kv-36xbr400 and its an excellent tv except the picure just started to shudder and appears slightly lighter while it shudders. It does not matter what input its on or what console I am using, though the menu on the tv does not seem to be affected so I am guessing its an issue with the inputs. Any suggestions?

Going by the limited information, it sounds like severe EMI. Try hooking up only one device to the TV with isolated A/V cables that have at least high-density braid-and-foil shielding.juststuff wrote:Any suggestions?

What more information should I give?
Re: Shuddering picture on Sony Trinitron
I have had very weird experiences with my Trinitrons both are kind of touchy at the moment. I sometimes get the shaky screens with occasional rolling lines, and I have one that comes on really bright when you power it on. The usual fix for both is just turning them on, then off for 5-10 seconds, and then back on again that usually fixes it. The older one in my room also seems to build up a static charge that can cause some slight interference sometimes so I occasionally have to run my hand across the screen to discharge some of it.
If you can take some pictures of the screen when it's having the issue.

The shaking is very minor only slight shuddering and the picture gets slightly brighter while its happening. The tv was off for about 10 min and have been using it for the past 5-10 min and it seems fine now. I will try to get a picture if it happens again (I really really hope it wont this is a great tv) I am afraid that it wont show up in a picture as the shuddering is very slight

Re: Shuddering picture on Sony Trinitron
Are there any other devices near the TV that could be transmitting EMF near the cables going into the TV? Does it happen when a plane flies over your house? Does it happen if you leave your smartphone next to your TV? Do you use bluetooth devices near the TV? Does it happen if someone in the kitchen runs a blender while you're watching the TV? These sorts of things. How long does the shuddering last in general?

The only device that could interfer is the bluetooth on my computer. as for how long it lasts can very from a couple seconds to 10 seconds. Also now that I have seen it enough its more of a wave. like a section of the picture is being smeared slightly. one more thing I just disovered it only seems to happen after it has been warmed up

Try totally powering down the laptop while you use the TV, see if the shuddering is gone after you do that.
Sure I could be wrong, but it sounds like intermittent interference. Are you using properly shielded A/V cables? Are they in proximity to any power cabling or power adapters? Are you running the A/V cables through an unshielded splitter or switch? These are things to take into consideration.
Try taking a look at this too:

Just to see if what you're seeing looks like any of that.

Well im not so sure about the interference. I have had tv for about 3 months and the set up for almost a year and this is the first time I have had such a problem. The first tv I had got bad vertical curcits but never had interference issues. The shuddering persists for only 2-5 seconds.

It'd be cool if you could upload a video clip of this happening or something.
