The Kevin Costner thing was actually a throwaway line on Breaking Bad. I'm sure there were more that I missed.

Just caught the past two episodes, and although I understand what they're going for, they still failed. Two pretty terrible hours of television.

Usually love the show, but the last episode in particular was no good. It was trying too hard to be camp, and you can not force that kind of humor. That, and there were countless dramatic framed shots that just don't vibe with the tone of the series.

It's common for shows to veer off course, and sometimes they make for memorable episodes. Like when Patrick Stewart plays a detective on Star Trek TNG, or when the Fresh Prince went super dramatic with the daddy issues. But those episodes are about fleshing out a character and show a different side of someone we didn't know a whole lot about. But that didn't occur on Saul.

Just some goofy montages and shots that seemed like the director was trying too hard to be different. But hey! The show did manage to get people talking.

You must not have seen the same last two episodes I did. I thought the penultimate episode was better, but both were quite good and absolutely sustained the tone of the first 3/4 of the season. The montage thing was a bit hokey, I guess, but that was like 2 minutes out of two episodes.

A bit?

The most current episode seemed misguided. Didn't seem like the show I've come to look forward to seeing each week.

Huh.

Seems I have a very unpopular opinion on the last episode.

And more times than not I agree with the AV Club's assessment of tv shows.

Not always keen on their movie reviews, but almost always reliable for tv show reviews.

Wish I could be articulate on why I didn't like the episode at all, but it's difficult to be articulate when you can't put your finger on exactly why you don't know why you didn't like the episode.

It felt "off". It felt "forced". I'd go as far as saying it felt like I freshman in film school directed it. Not only that, but it didn't follow the formula that Saul has done so well. And to reiterate, I love shows that are offbeat as long as it leads or lends to character development.

Perhaps I've been spoiled by the previous episodes. It also reminded of of the episode o Sopranos where "Cwisstapha" gets high and kills Adriana's dog by sitting on it. It seemed weird, very silly, and not in line with a regular Soprano's episode.

It's amazing how jaded Jimmy has become. They get him this GREAT opportunity, and it's like he just assumes it won't work out and decides to ignore it and go back to being Slipping Jimmy.

To see that moment where the universe finally cuts you a break...and you just pass on it. I thought that was fascinating.

The last episode didn't work for me either, but the final scene was pretty good. You can only be stung so many times to keep on giving a damn, and his entire field as advocate is built on crookedness and backstabbing.

That's part of why I'm so into the show. I understand the screwed up mindset Jimmy has. Its real, its honest.

When it comes to the last two episodes, I honestly think they did really well with all of it. It had a certain energy to the whole thing.
