I'm a sucker for Defender-style scrolling for some reason, despite sucking at games that tend to use it. I may need to try this out.SNESdrunk wrote:Thursday, April 2, 2015 - Syder Arcade

I love that you found something unique to focus on with your "English Friendly Japanese Games" series. There are really no other YouTubers who are able to do what you do with this series. I have been a subscriber since you released part one!
I know that your handle is SNES drunk...but I'd greatly enjoy the same attention you pay to English friendly SFC games paid to NES/Famicom games. Your platformer recommendations are sublime.
While I'm at it, English Friendly Genesis games wouldn't hurt either! NES/Famicom are my number one recommendation through.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the nice words and thanks for watching! A big reason I do the SFC RPG videos is because I feel like a lot of hard work to create English translation patches made by people like Dynamic Designs and Aeon Genesis is going unnoticed and underappreciated. Those people are really good at what they do, the least I can do is highlight some of their work and let people know (that otherwise wouldn't) that it's available.GrouchoGlasses wrote:I love that you found something unique to focus on with your "English Friendly Japanese Games" series. As for Famicom or Mega Drive imports, maybe someday. I still have a long way to go yet with SFC

Sounds about right. I played through both the arcade and the SNES port a couple of years ago and had a blast. I'd highly recommend it over other run and gun games on the Super Nintendo like Doom Troopers and GunForce.SNESdrunk wrote:Tuesday, April 7, 2015 - Sunset Riders

Re: SNESdrunk reviews
For some reason Konami decided to limit themselves to a 5 megabit cart on the Genesis. I guess maybe they were afraid it wasn't going to sell so they didn't want to commit much to the production? That's why we ended up with cut levels and only two characters.
I played the SNES version first because a friend of mine had it when we were kids and we absolutely loved the game. It got nearly as much play as Turtles in Time. So when I discovered the Genesis version I was pretty upset about the missing characters. But these days I've come to the realization that they're just clones of each other anyway and since there's no four player mode I can understand why they decided to axe them with the space restrictions. It does kind of suck that you can't have two shotgun guys though.
There are a lot of things the Genesis got right however. I personally kind of prefer the darker color palette. It gives the game a good Western feel. There was less censorship with the ladies in the saloons actually being old-west style hookers, the animation where you burn to death being intact, and keeping the Native American enemies in the game. The gameplay is slightly faster, some would say more challenging but I'm not sure I agree.
The changes kind of make Sunset Riders for Genesis its own game. I own both Genesis and SNES versions today and play both in a similar vein to the TMNT games, though the definite edge goes to the SNES if you need to pick one.
Still, I'm pretty impressed how much quality Konami managed to jam into a 5 megabit Genesis cartridge.

I still need to subscribe you you, Drunky. I keep clicking the links here without logging into the Tube.
I watched/listened to like 10 of yours vids while grinding in SoM the other night.
I got to wondering - how do you record? Actual consoles or emulation? What kind of mic do you use?

Both, also a Retron 5 with the Elgato Game Capture HD device. If I need to access a specific part of a game (particularly an RPG), I'll use an emulator (Snes9x 1.53) and dig for a save state if I can find one.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I got to wondering - how do you record? Actual consoles or emulation?
An MXL 2001 condenser mic. I bought my first one 10+ years ago back when I recorded music, but gradually over the last few months it died a slow death. I was happy to find they still make it and bought another one.BoneSnapDeez wrote:What kind of mic do you use?

Thanks for the info. I've recorded a bit of stuff myself, but I'm quite the novice so I'm always seeking wisdom from others.
And as a Retron 5 owner, I can actually tell when it's being used in your vids.
