Believe me, as a huge fan of the first game I wanted to love Prime 2 just as much but after three separate attempts that were years apart it just refused to happen.
Due to that I never got around to 3 and now I don't have a Wii to play it on so I can't really talk about it.

What's wrong with gleeful revelry in carnage?Key-Glyph wrote:marurun wrote:I can't play evil in games, even on second play-throughs. I can occasionally do the bad thing, or make the minor evil or selfish decision. I mean, I'm as klepto as anyone else in Bethesda games. But I just can't nuke Megaton, for example. I don't know why. It makes me feel bad.
I think I'm broken...Take heart, marurun -- I'm in your camp. Doing "evil" things in video games can cause me a great deal of stress, especially when I'm unsure how far the game is going to take my decision. I don't enjoy that feeling. I've reloaded saves that put me back several hours because I couldn't stop ruminated over something upsetting I'd done. And, obviously, I just cried all the tears for the RQ.
That said, I never, ever thought I'd play a 90% renegade Mass Effect run -- but when I did, it turned out to be my most enjoyable one. This was totally unexpected because I had assumed being renegade would require gleeful revelry in carnage, which I typically do not enjoy. I was amazed to find that I didn't disagree with any of my decisions in the end (remembering, of course, that there were still a few renegade options I rejected), and was fascinated by how the difference in tone affected my experience of the plot -- especially in those cases where results were the same regardless of moral alignment. It was neat stuff.

Nintendo releasing Mario Kart DS on the eShop without multiplayer of any kind is just sad.

On first playthroughs I tend to play a good guy in games where I'm supposed to be a hero, make pragmatic decisions in games where the main character is morally ambiguous and be the bad guy in the rare game where you're supposed to be the bad guy.
My Sith in Star Wars: The Old Republic for example, MURDER AND MAYHEM 24/7.

Now I did, only because they announced today that both games are coming out October 16!noiseredux wrote:I'm actually a lot more interested in Tom Clancy's The Division. Have you seen that one?

While we're on the subject, I think Splinter Cell Double Agent did a good job with the good/evil quandary. At any time you can handle the objectives for good *or* for evil, but if you go too far in one direction during a mission you will have to perform an extra objective for the side you're farther away from to make sure your loyalties are in check. Plus it's a 2-game playthrough depending on your ending.

Nothing at all! It's just that for whatever reason, in many cases it's an unpleasant experience for me.Ack wrote:What's wrong with gleeful revelry in carnage?

Damn right. Mario's straight gangsta. He slaughtered thousands, maybe millions, of Goombas and Koopas over the years. Goombas with families. Koopas who enlisted only to put food on the table. That first Goomba in Super Mario Bros? Paying off a mortgage. The debt transferred to his next of kin, his poor, invalid mother. That second? Wife and three kids, all fatherless now. His little Goomba kids keep asking, "Momma, when's Daddy coming home?" She cries as she lies about how he's on a "secret mission" for King Koopa, knowing she'll never see the dashing smile she fell in love with again.
But you know what? Life is pain. Cause a little chaos. They fucked with the Mushroom Kingdom, so now Mario's gotta show 'em why they don't fuck with the Mushroom Kingdom. And every fatherless Goomba and hungry, homeless Koopa will know. Every Lakitu who has to pass a crippled and begging Shyguy on the street will know. Every Piranha Plant who has to see his family suffer from his PTSD will know. You don't fuck with the Mushroom Kingdom, or else the Mushroom Kingdom fucks back, and the Mushroom Kingdom plays for keeps.
That's how it is in video games. Someone else came thinking they were all big and bad. But they done fucked up. I just make sure they know it. Sephiroth? Dead. Kefka? Dead. Makron? Dead. Ganon? Dead. William Birkin? Dead. Mother Brain? Dead. Nihilanth? Dead. Saren? Dead. Their heads are mounted on my wall.

Link burst into the cottage, heedless of the late hour and immediately began rifling through the family's chests, smashing their pots. Whatever he found went straight into his pockets to be spent on potions, still beating hearts, or whatever else he damn well pleased.
The villagers did nothing. Said nothing. What could they do? This was their hero, their only chance to have the vile Ganon stopped. This was the lesser evil.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
