Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Metroid Prime 2 is the weakest of the trilogy but still a great game. Except for Boost Guardian; fuck that guy.

He is what has stopped me every time. I finally beat him tonight...and realized that I now have no idea where to go. Fortunately that is the point, right?MrPopo wrote:Metroid Prime 2 is the weakest of the trilogy but still a great game. Except for Boost Guardian; fuck that guy.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Maybe you'll agree with this or not, but I've always seen the Metroid Prime 1 -> Prime 2 transition being pretty comparable to Ocarina of Time -> Majora's Mask. The successors are darker, more challenging, and gameplay wise build upon the awesome foundation that the first set in stone.Flake wrote:I am playing through Metroid Prime 2 again for the third time. I have never finished it before but this time it is clicking. The atmosphere and grit feel like a complete contrast with Prime 1. It feels like I am on a slimy alien world and the shadows are coming for me. The creepiest monents at the end of Prime are outstripped in the first hour.Xeogred wrote:Am I the only one that liked Metroid Prime 2 a lot? Both sequels don't come close to the magic of the first, but don't all trilogies have that one standout? Definitely one of the most consistent awesome gaming trilogies ever in my book. What I liked about Prime 2 was that it ramped up the difficulty a ton. Torvus and Sky Sanctuary were incredible.
The reason I say that Metroid Prime is one of the greatest trilogies is because of the development of the story and Samus as a character. With so little dialogue and an almost entirely optional back story, the universe collapses into war over a tainted power supply, planets fall victim to attacks from another galaxy, and a lone bounty hunter risks everything to save the universe, defeat the Space Pirates, and get revenge on the ghost of the monster that killed her family.
I like Prime 1 and OoT the most in these cases, but to put it simply and quite frankly I'm flabbergasted anyone can say they love the first game and not enjoy Prime 2, as it feels like nothing more than an extension of the first, which can only be awesome.
3 on the other hand really changed it up, was more linear (I recall 90% of the energy tanks being thrown at you), more dialogue/story elements, and the multiple planets thing made it different, so it's definitely more departed. My least favorite of the three, but still damn good and one of the best on the Wii. An awesome conclusion. It's a shame a lot of fans only played the first game.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I just didn't find Prime 2 very compelling. The light-world/dark-world cliche didn't work for me nor did the gimmicks it brought with it. There wasn't as much diversity in the locations because of this and most feel really dreary. I also felt like they amplified the fetch-quests, which was one of the negative aspects of the first game.
Believe me, as a huge fan of the first game I wanted to love Prime 2 just as much but after three separate attempts that were years apart it just refused to happen.
Due to that I never got around to 3 and now I don't have a Wii to play it on so I can't really talk about it.

New Rainbow Six game is coming out this year, the first since Vegas 2! It will also be on PC! I hope this will be good!

Not saying I'm mister super gamer or anything but I beat the Boost Guardian like it was nothing. But the Spider Ball Guardian kicked my ass sideways and I stopped playing the game there. That and having to look for all those invisible keys just ruined it for me.MrPopo wrote:Metroid Prime 2 is the weakest of the trilogy but still a great game. Except for Boost Guardian; fuck that guy.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Boost Guardian wasn't too bad my first time in. Then I tried doing a hard mode runthrough.Exhuminator wrote:Not saying I'm mister super gamer or anything but I beat the Boost Guardian like it was nothing. I think I'm broken...
That said, I never, ever thought I'd play a 90% renegade Mass Effect run -- but when I did, it turned out to be my most enjoyable one. This was totally unexpected because I had assumed being renegade would require gleeful revelry in carnage, which I typically do not enjoy. I was amazed to find that I didn't disagree with any of my decisions in the end (remembering, of course, that there were still a few renegade options I rejected), and was fascinated by how the difference in tone affected my experience of the plot -- especially in those cases where results were the same regardless of moral alignment. It was neat stuff.
