Random Gaming Thoughts
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
The concept was interesting, but I wonder if OnLive ever really caught on.

I have begun referring to it as the Hyper Inflation Entertainment System. Sadly, even in the UK most games seem to start off at 15 pounds.ExedExes wrote:SNES prizes are crazy.Hazerd wrote:So Pocky & Rocky 2 is going for over $200+ now on Amazon and Ebay, currently no listings for it on Ebay though.
Kinda crazy, i bought this game for like $25 in 2005, and the first one for maybe $15.
Just a thought.

For me a double edged sword. On one hand cheering that a streaming game service failed since I prefer OWNING the entire game locally. On the other hand competition always a good thing, shame that a giant such as Sony buying them out. It also alludes to Sony moving forward to not only download, but streaming their game titles in years to come.RCBH928 wrote:it always saddens me to see a digital service or a website die. Its like I am attending a funeral. I still remember telling a friend that there is a new service coming out where you will always get the best of graphics and you can play on any machine back in 2009.ExedExes wrote:Cloud gaming service pioneer OnLive is shutting down after acquisition by Sony.
Additionally, customers will not be receiving refunds.
its very sad to see the fate of OnLive given that many tech companies are betting on "the cloud" with Sony and Nvidia releasing exactly the same service. Its also sad that by the death of this company, we still don't have internet speeds that are sufficient to run OnLive (ok some might have it)
The non refund and streaming game shutdown is just more proof why I prefer the non DLC disc copy. The "Cloud" name in itself is really ironic, clouds sometimes disappear on the horizon.Onlive wrote:http://venturebeat.com/2015/04/03/onliv ... -shutdown/
Q: What happens to my PlayPass games?
A: PlayPass games will no longer be available on OnLive after April 30, 2015.
Q: What happens to my game save data and achievements?
A: Game save data and achievements will be deleted after April 30, 2015 unless it was on CloudLift, in which case the data will remain on Steam.
Q: I bought a PC-only Steam game under the assumption that I could play it via OnLive on my Mac. Can I get a refund?
A: Unfortunately no refunds are available for Steam games purchased via OnLive.
Q: I bought an OnLive Game System, or OnLive Universal Wireless Controller. Does the hardware work with any other platforms?
A: OnLive’s hardware does not work with any other platforms. No refunds are available for hardware purchases, unless it was purchased on or after Feb. 1, 2015. If your purchase falls within that window, you may request a refund by sending an email to [email protected] with the subject line Hardware Refund.
Some time ago there was discussion concerning the negatives of max data usage and surcharges. I say now bring them on to keep my sometimes slow cable modem internet connection manageable. The hogs that are always streaming movies really should pay more, maybe then the cable connection will be fast again. I dread when 4k video streaming happens on older non fiber optic neighborhoods.

Has there been a great MLB game since 2004?
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Sony is already doing it, at least in beta. It's something that has the potential to add to options available to consumers as well, though I think it's more the model used. Having a library of stuff available at a fixed monthly cost, like most video streaming services now, can be appealing.CRTGAMER wrote: For me a double edged sword. The infrastructure should be built out. Better data connections are a groundwork for future tech. We wouldn't be able to have what we have now if the best available was still a 56k modem. They should be moving to make a 500GB/month cap as quaint and antiquated as BBS weekly limits seem now. Some time ago there was discussion concerning the negatives of max data usage and surcharges. Metroid Prime might be one of the most well executed Video game trilogies of all time.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I don't know about that. Nintendo kinda shit the bed with the second game.Flake wrote:Metroid Prime might be one of the most well executed Video game trilogies of all time.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Other M > Metroid Prime.
Yup. Just typed that.
Hate to keep bringing it up, but when you have one hand, some games are nearly impossible to play. The Metroid Prime series requires a lot of L Button pressing and holding, and that makes for a frustrating experience. A quick tap of the L button or L trigger isn't difficult, but holding that sucker down is toilsome.

What about the Prime Trilogy version, which uses a different scheme? I don't like having to keep the Wiimote pointed at the screen, since it's like watching a movie that pauses if you stop holding the TV remote up...but it's full-time freelook.Luke wrote: Hate to keep bringing it up, but when you have one hand, some games are nearly impossible to play. Nintendo seems like they're rarely good about accessibility, particularly if they're sold on a particular mechanic. IE, not being able to remap waggle for those who might literally be unable to do that. Alternatively, not use motion controls for people unable to hold a Wiimote steady.

I demoed the Blissbox 4 play at MTAC last Saturday for 15 hours and loaded up Geometry Wars for it. Before the weekend I played it maybe 30 minutes, now, after 15 hours of game time, I am hooked. Stupid twinstick shooters and their addictive nature.
