does anyone in here have energy star products does it save you money on electricity bill

My new AOC LCD monitor has a little energy star sticker in the corner.........but I really dont know how that benefits it. I can confirm that this monitor kicks ass though! 20000:1 contrast ratio and a 2ms response time. Best purchase ive made in awhile.

I'm assuming it means it's energy efficient. If it was a proper energy savings ratings test there would be some sort of governmental attachment to it. If I were you I'd find out what benefits this 'energy star' brings you. If it is a standard ratings system for energy efficiency there will be somewhere where you can find out more information and what tests these appliances are put though.

In the UK we have a standardised system for most electrical appliances that rates it's energy efficiency it is a government standard and most appliances have them. (I don't think TVs have them for some reason though, but then again they're banning Plasma's in the EU so what do they know. Fucking idiots.)
Most appliances are rated at at least B. Some crappy manufacturers have stuff that's rated at C or D but the price reflects that since you would save more in the long run getting a better efficient device. Then again, most consumers are morons who will just buy the cheapest, then it dies and they buy the cheapest again 12 months later.

Of course they do, otherwise the rating would be be entirely pointless. Check the wikipedia entry on energystar for more details. In the short run I doubt it'd be much of a difference, power bills usually aren't all that big, but over the years it adds up.

I'm sorry, I don't live in your country. I don't know what it is. I merely pointed him to do some of his own research, make him a bit more intelligent on the subject. After all, if he has some idea what he is purchasing then he will make more sound buying decisions.

I'm not going to spoon feed people. The information is bound to be out there. I know that. It's up to him whether he seeks it out.

If you read my initial post properly you will see that if it is a standard and not some bullshit that is made up by some marketing company there it will be a standards based efficiency test that appliances are put through. I don't know what happens in your country, I don't know your standards, I've never been. Probably never will. The key is to find out for yourselves.
