DownTown / Mokugeki, by Seta. 1989.

Weird coincidence, I played this for the first time yesterday.

I figured I'd look up Downtown and link you something. Is SiW right?

Dowtown is definitely not the game I was thinking of.

I'd be really surprised if I wasn't. There are only a handful of MAME titles that have been categorized under "Fighter > Vertical", and DownTown starts with a guy witnessing some mob / cop payoff, hiding in a barrel as they leave, then jumps out and "proceeds to kick ass down the alley ways and the streets" :)

I'm pretty sure that SiW is right! This looks pretty damn close to what I remember, I'll have to hunt this down and verify for sure...

Yup! Just tried it out and this is it!!! The guy witnesses a pay off between some bad guys and cops and they come after him. He runs and hids in a industrial trash bin and then jumps out when the cops come by in a car.

Wow! I can't wait to beat this damn thing when I get home from work today. Big thanks to everyone who helped me find this, but major thanks to SiW for the game name and Ack for the picture link!

What did you think of the game SiW?

I didn't honestly give it a chance, I turned it off pretty quickly. I've never been one for the separate rotating games in the arcades, so I really don't like them without the real controller.

So, I played it for about 45 minutes and the game is pretty bad. I now understand why I couldn't remember much about the game, because you die practically every minute of the game due to the bad control and game play.

Now granted, I'm not playing with a 8 way stick, but you can get around this. This major issue is that for every punch or kick you manage to hit your enemy with, he nails you with about 10; draining your energy bar by half. Meaning if you have two enemies on screen at once you better get your next quarter ready.

Plus the stages are LONG and the music doesn't fit with the game at all. This thing was made to be a quarter sucker and they got the suck part right for sure.

Funny how this thing seemed so awesome when I was kid playing it, if I could go back in time I'd slap myself for even wasting my old man's money on this one.

This isn't to say I'm not thankful for you guys helping me find this, I truly am! I'm just shocked on how unplayable the game is.
