Woops. That slipped under my radar. I figured it was gonna be a late 360 or PS3 if anything.

Never owned one and until you said something I wasn't even sure if Sony still supported that platform.

I don't know if this gadget has been mentioned in this thread, but I want one:

I'm already using ~65% of my Xbox One's hard drive so I'm going to have to expand soon. This looks like a great space saver and adds some convenient front USB ports.

So does the Xbox One use proprietary hard drives like the 360 did? That's what I love about the PS3 and PS4, you can just swap in your own hard drive without any added peripherals, I know people have put 2 terabyte solid state drives in their PS4s for much faster loading.

I'm not sure about internal drive compatibility because the Xbox One isn't meant to have a user replaceable drive (It is possible. it just voids the warranty). However, any external USB 3.0 hard drive of 256GB capacity or greater will work with it. This includes hybrid drives, SSDs, and mechanical hard drives. The internal drive of a Xbox One is a 500GB 5400 RPM drive so you should not see a decrease in performance by using a cheap high capacity 5400 RPM drive. Though using an external SDD does appear to have a significant performance boost.

Yeah the way that the XB1 does it now I find to be superior to PS4, because if you want a 2TB SSD drive for your games on XB1 you attach it via USB and you're done. With PS4 you have to attach it to your computer move some crap, format it in a certain way, and then redownload your crap. It's still not that hard to do mind you, just way more hassle comparatively.

I got my Collective Minds Xbox One Media Hub today along with this 2TB Samsung Seagate hard drive to go in it. It wasn't quite as plug and play as I would have liked but I did manage to get it working. I can't be sure if it was the enclosure, hard drive, or the Xbox that was acting up but the Xbox was initially unable to detect it. My suspicions tell me that it was probably the Xbox being stupid.

I connected it to my PC via a short USB extension to test it out and Windows picked it up just fine. I then created a partition and formatted it. Next I put it back on the Xbox One and still nothing. After checking Collective Minds' support page, I reinserted the enclosure while the system was on per their troubleshooting instructions. That got me a popup that said it was detected. At this point you are supposed to get a wizard that allows you to format the drive for Xbox One to allow the installation of games. It never appeared for me. Upon checking Settings -> System -> Storage, I discovered that I could only use it for pictures and videos. There was no option to reformat.

Ultimately the magic combination to get it working was deleting the partition with my PC, reinserting the hub while the Xbox was powered on and doing a full reboot. After that, I was able to go to Settings -> System -> Storage and I now had the option to format the drive for use with games.

Despite the hiccups getting started, I really like this product. It matches the Xbox One perfectly and makes it easier to take on the road (vs using a typical USB external drive). The front USB ports are also a big plus for me because the cabinet that my Xbox One is in makes it difficult to access both the rear and side USB port. It is also very satisfying to go from 35% free space to 91%.

Here's why I want one:

1. Games of course! (Am mainly a PC guy this gen)
2. Multimedia apps (the wife and I are cord cutting in August)
3. Windows 10 unificationy-ness... or something?
4. I like the controller
