Hi all

I got into gaming in the 16-bit era and have been collecting and playing games ever since. Sometimes I've favored the PC and at other times consoles. My time line is Genesis, Playstation, Dreamcast, XBox. After that i began to fill in the gaps with a saturn, snes, nes, gamecube, PS2 and mastersystem. There was a PS3 at one point but I never found a whole lot of use for that. These days though (courtesy of a deranged health problem) I'm pretty much reduced to emulation while my collection sits in sealed crates in the attic.

Strategy games in all their many forms are really my favorite genre, and probably the only one at which I have any flair. My taste beyond that is fairly eclectic but shmups, 2d platformers, survival horror, Arcade style racing games (which it to say those with as little basis in reality as humanly possible) and the old school point'n'click adventures are also more heavily favored. At the moment I'm on a mission to beat at least one JRPG in this lifetime (started with FFVI, moved to Suikoden II and am now trying FFVII) but given my history with them it seems unlikely.

Currently I'm off on long term sick leave (several years now) but before that I worked in research and have never moved much outside of the academic system. I tried real work once, didn't like it, and have spent all the time since contriving never to have a proper job. I used to use a combination of climbing, mountain biking and games as stress relief from work. Now I just sit and play games as well as haphazardly acting as a staffer elsewhere on the interwebs.

Beyond that I collect Horror movies with a great fondness for JHorror, French new wave and the unadulterated cheese of the 70s productions. Musically I favor Metal(usually Black), classical, Electro-industrial/Aggrotech, some Jazz, prog rock and A little europop. Well, maybe too much europop - my commitment to truly awful music should not be underestimated.

K, that will have to do for an introduction.
I look forward to chatting with you all :)

Hello all,

I have been jumping from one internet gaming forum to another for about 10 years now and I figured now was a good time to give Racketboy a try.

I am 33 years old and have been into gaming since the 2600. I much prefer the older consoles as I personally don't like the way gaming is going. I love to play on my large CRT televisions as I recently got a Sony Trinitron. I currently have 314 games along with a NES, SNES, GEN, N64, DC & PS2. In a few short months, I should be getting a Gamecube and a XBOX as well.

I love many older things as I am kind of a History buff. I love watching old movies, old books and even older music. I love watching Turner Classic Movies. I love reading classic literature and fantasy fare. And most of my music is either from the 80s or 90s.

I love game shopping as the St. Louis area has some really great retro stores. I also love visiting Arcades and Pinball places.

My favorite spot on the internet is my Backloggery as I much prefer playing games than talking about them, but I still love to keep the pulse of other gamers. So, I decided to come in here and see what everybody is doing/playing. And I might post my two cents every now and then.

Thanks for having me!

I feel as though I don't see this thread bumped all that often. Happy to see new faces saying hello, welcome all.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed
Chronically out of date BST thread

Welcome aboard! It is a pleasure to have you here! Question time! When you say that you are into Strategy games, are we talking Real-time Strategy, or turn based? What games are you big into in the genre? Also, you are an old-school point-and-click adventure game player! Hooray! We need more of those in the world here! Did you prefer Sierra or Lucasarts? I was a giant Sierra fanatic as a kid, playing Space Quest 2 on my Apple IIGS in the 80's and from there on out was diehard up until Lucasarts put out Full Throttle and, The Dig, which drew me into their titles.

Want a fun JRPG to play and beat that isn't dull, try Panzer Dragoon Saga. The combat system is fun and engaging, without being overly complex. You don't have to worry about party management and you have a crazy world to explore. The game is a blast (albeit pricey), but I'm sure you can find it somewhere wink wink. I always say I am into JRPGs, but realize I have only beaten less than 5 (yet own an egregious amount of them), but I realized why. The combat needs to be engaging and the world has to go beyond the standard fantasy fare. Panzer Dragoon Saga does all of that and is such a delight... check it out!

Anywho, welcome aboard and it is great to have you!

Hey thanks for stopping by! So you say you don't like how modern games are turning out. Why is that? I am curious to know and am not trying to be antagonistic, so no worries! Out of the plethora of systems, which one do you enjoy playing the most? I would say that my Saturn has gotten the most mileage from me as I have plunked an almost infinite number of hours in games like Dragon Force, Panzer Dragon 1, 2 and Saga, Magic Knight Rayearth, Saturn Bomberman, Dark Savior etc. and really love the system. Another one would be my Sega CD, only because I have a love for cheesy FMV games like Crime Patrol, Night Trap, Double Switch and Wirehead. These games are extremely cheesy, but there is such a charm to them that is hard to describe.

Anywho, welcome aboard and it is a pleasure to have you!

There are certain aspects of modern gaming that really turns me off. I don't like the push towards online functionality especially when it comes to DRM and needing a constant connection to play a game. I don't like the idea of downloadable titles as I much prefer to have the physical copy in my hand and I don't trust larger companies having ownership over my games. I don't like how fragile some consoles are becoming and how some of them simply won't work in several years.

I understand people playing much current systems and I don't think lesser of them because of it. However, I much prefer playing older systems and older styled games.

To be honest, I switch between my consoles pretty regularly. I recently got my Dreamcast and I am loving that. My PS2 has been a staple for over a decade. If I had to go for a favorite, it would probably be my NES. That console has so many memories and a plethora of games that I haven't even played before!

I heavily looked into getting a Saturn as there are a good chunk of games that I want to play on it. Also, the 2D sprites on the console look amazing. However, that console is incredibly expensive to get into as all the good games I really wanted cost over $100. Maybe later on when I'm looking for more new consoles the prices will go down. So, I am quite jealous of your selection and might I suggest Dragon Force as that is a game my buddy had that is quite amazing.

Hello Everyone! I am Felonious Gru! Gru for short.

I was snooping around the interwebs when I found this site. I think this place has much potential. I see lots of users with lots of wealth, both informative and material.

I think I may visit some of you soon! Kid, I kid.

I am a former super villan. Well, super villian is such a vague word.I am a happy father of three (plus another thousand). I have a lovely wife and a great friend that lives in my compound. We have lots of fun and adventure doing things that we like. Sometimes I do good things, sometimes bad things. But I try to be good most of the time.

Oh but this is a videogame site! Silly me! You people like to talk about games!

You know I have made some of the videogames. I have lots of games on Android and Apple too. They are pretty popular. I think you people here would like them.
All of you people here look like you know your stuff. I like that. I remember playing on a vectrex so many years ago. I had fun with it a few hours, and then I turned it into a sonar scrambler.

Ah yes good times.

I hope to chat with you on the forums!

P.S. Dont mind Flojocabron. He's in a safe place right now. I just let him chill for a while!

Hello. New to the site and figured I'd introduce myself. My name is Johnathan and I currently live in Spruce Grove, AB. I have around 550 games and many different systems. I mainly collect the consoles but do have a couple handhelds. I have a nice little Zelda collection and have approx 9 games left to add to it.
