Shmup of the Month Club 2015 (Completed)
Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2015 (March - Mushihimesama Futa
Thanks doc. I've cleared both original modes before this month. Maniac is all about building that multiplier and then cashing out when the screen is full of bullets. It's a cool mechanic, but it requires a lot of memorization to score well, knowing when to cash out. Some of the good score players will milk the stage 2 boss for a lot of points.

Maniac Mode
ExedExes - 51,472,852 - Stage 3 - Reco/A - MAME

I gave Reco another try. I sure cashed in at a few points here.

Made it to level 5 with two bombs left on my last life this time. Died at the big dragon where the screen starts scrolling backwards.

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2015 (April - Viper Phase 1)
It's DocHauser's turn for April, so let's bring out Viper Phase 1!
*INFORMATION*
MAME romset: viprp1.zip
Description: Viper Phase 1 (New Version, World)
DIPs: Default (Difficulty Normal)
Autofire: Set to High Speed as default. Fire away!
Format: Name - Score - Loop-Stage - MAME/PCB (please specify Old or New Version)
Note 1: Much like Mushihimesama Futari from last month, there exists an old version and a new version of this game. I was unable to see what the differences were in each, but in the interest of disclosure and running an honest competition, just know that 2 versions exist. New version is the parent ROM, and therefore the default scoreboard for this game.
If you prefer to play the old version, it exists under filename viprp1oj.zip known as Viper Phase 1 (Japan), and I'll make a new scoreboard for this. Keep in mind the Japanese version(s) of this game do not loop like all other ROM sets outside Japan do. You also need the parent ROM above to play the Japan old version set!
Note 2: When starting this game up for the first time, there will be an update countdown from 999. You must let this finish, hitting the fast forward key will not make it advance quicker. It will take less than 5 minutes. When the countdown is finished, you may hit F3 to reset. You only need to do this once.

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2015 (April - Viper Phase 1)
I'm pretty sure I have been able to fast forward the countdown on this before (default key for it should be 'ins'). I'll try and check when I get home later...

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2015 (April - Viper Phase 1)
I've dealt with this for years with all of Seibu's more modern games (SPI hardware and beyond), and hitting Insert does very little to move it ahead faster. Viper Phase 1's countdown is a lot faster than other games like the Raiden Fighters series and Battle Balls, probably because it was an earlier release.

Re: Shmup of the Month Club 2015 (April - Viper Phase 1)
I tried out the Old Version, and pressing Insert during the countdown makes it run at 230%, so it's a bit quicker. You do have to sit there and keep your finger on it though, or you could let it run normally and go do something else for five minutes...
It would appear I've never actually played the Old Version before, because I don't remember the time limit on the extra weapons. Makes it a bit harder to get that 100% clear in levels.
