So why does Super Metroid only cost 200 coins for the Wii U version but 250 coins for the Wii version?

Most later Nintendo consoles are relatively weak as far as RPGs. The shift occurred when the PSX/N64 came out. The SNES-to-PS2 era might have been the absolute best for JRPGs.

Still, I'd say the best RPGs (especially JRPGs) from last generation were on the Wii. Xenoblade and The Last Story alone were enough, in my mind, to put the Wii on top of the JRPG heap.

I tend to think of Pokémon as a series of monster-training games, and the Paper Mario (sub-)series to be comprised of "Mario games that happen to be RPGs." Neither series has that true "JRPG" aesthetic.

Wii had the best home console JRPGs of the 7th gen. DS and PSP were probably the top two RPG systems overall though. And I anticipate that most of my favorite RPGs of the eight gen will end up on the 3DS and Vita.

Still looking forward to that Xeno game on Wii U though.

I disagree with Wii on RPGs. It had just a few. I prefer the likes of Lost Odyssey and several of the PS3 RPGs which had a bunch.

Eh, that's kind of writing off a lot of games - and some that are still to come (Persona 5 for instance). Or quite a few games on handhelds if they're within scope, most of which are probably closer to "traditional" JRPGs by comparison.

False. The best JRPGs of the last gen were on PSP.

If by PSP you mean DS then I agree with you.

DS and PSP are tight. I think ultimately the DS just squeaks ahead. Dragon Quest IX ftw.

No upcoming games on PS3 look particularly compelling to me. RPG or otherwise. Did anyone else notice there was a Shining RPG for PS3 quietly released in Japan last year?

Gettin' way off topic now. Sorry.

I'll get us back on topic.

I bought Gummy Bears Mini-Golf for the Wii over weekend. I do not think it will be valuable. Mini-Golf Resort is disconcertingly pricey, however, but I will still add it to my collection of Wii golf games at some point.

My Wii golf games collection currently consists of:

Carnival Games Mini Golf
Gummy Bears Mini Golf
Kidz Sports Crazy Golf
King of Clubs
The Masters: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2012
Super Swing Golf
Super Swing Golf Season 2

The child in me wants this to be based on Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears.
