Almost every import made before 1992 can be played with a game genie, a cart slot mod, or a genesis model 3. now for some later titles you need a game genie code to bypass the region lock....like Alien Soldier and Bare Knuckle 3. As far as buying a genesis for the imports alone I can't say that it'd be worth it. The import titles worth buying like Zero Wing, Gleylancer, Langressor 2, Magical Chase, Undead Line...and some others including the two i mentioned before are not cheap. Copies of a few of those titles can go above the $100 mark on ebay. Now there are some great cheap imorts and 90% of the best US titles are really affordable.

The genesis has so many great action adventure games, a ton of great shumps, and some great rpg's including a few great srp's. Now then there is the sega cd, which has 10 or so amazing titles as well. Now I'm not going to make a list but i'll send a few links your way. And watch some youtube videos to view gameplay.

This site is a little sega-biased but has great info.

There is no Magical Chase for the Genesis. You must be thinking of something else.

If you have not played a Sega Genesis before, than you are seriously missing out. Here are some of the best titles for the Genesis, some are expensive, but overall it's cheaper than collecting for the NES and SNES.

Gunstar Heroes (run and gun)
Phantasy Star 2 & 3 (rpg)
Shining Force 1 & 2 (tactical rpg)
Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 & 3 (action platformers)
Decap Attack (action platformer)
Ecco the Dolphin (action - adventure)
Streets of Rage 2 (beat 'em up)
Rocket Knight Adventures (action platformer)
General Chaos (strategy, with awesome multi player)
Splatterhouse 2 & 3 (beat 'em up)
Dynamite Headdy (action platformer)
Robocop Versus Terminator (action platformer / run and gun)
Strider (the definition of awesome)
Shinobi 3 (action platformer)

If you only got 1/3 of those games you would still be rolling in 16 bit awesome.

Sorry about taking so long to respond. School got really hectic :( . But wow. Looking up all the games you guys recommended made me realize just how many great games there are on the Genesis. To be honest, until recently I had only ever played a Genesis once in my life and it was for less than 5 minutes. I believe the game was Sonic and Knuckles, but I was a really small kid so I can't guarantee. Apparently I've been missing out  .

Anyways, imports that have really caught my eye are Zero Wing, Pulseman, and a few shmups (a genre I'm really wanting to get into). I would really like more suggestions on action games and platformers :D .

I'm enjoying going back to the Sega side of the retro games library, seeing as I grew up with Nintendo. The next consoles I need to get are definitely a Genesis and a Saturn. I just found out my roommate had a Genesis hiding in a box and have been playing Phantasy Star IV and Altered Beast today. He also has a copy of Lunar 2: Eternal Blue (PS1) that I'm thinking of pilfering :P .

By the way, does anyone have more info on how the Genesis saves (battery, ect)?
Looking for Animal Crossing e Reader cards! - link

The Genesis saves like the SNES - battery backed saves on the game cartridge.
Mostly harmless
