The day X-Files fans have been waiting seven years for has arrived. No, we’re not getting a third movie after Fox had the brilliant idea to release I Want to Believe up against The Dark Knight, but the series is coming back to television.
It’s been rumored for a long time, but now it’s 100% official. Fox has given the go-ahead for a six-episode limited series. Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson, and David Duchovny are all back and will film the six episodes over this summer. Fox hasn’t yet announced when the episodes will air, but just getting the confirmation is good enough for now!
There’s no clue as to what the six episodes will be about, but hopefully it finally resolves the “mythology” arc of the series that was given a pretty major cliffhanger in the final episode.
I feel like The X-Files: I Want to Believe was a good-enough capstone for the series. I'm not too anxious for more. I mean, the series declined in quality pretty severely even during its original run and when the focus was still on Mulder & Scully.
Right now, I'm watching the original X-files series for the first time, and the original Twin Peaks series for the first time. While I have been watching them, new episodes have been planned for both. Sweet timing.
I really enjoyed watching X-Files the first season or two, but I remember after one episode featuring a teacher who mind-controlled her student to slash her wrists while she was doing a pig dissection my mother decided it was too dark for her (and by extension, me - I couldn't have been more than 13, so I was watching TV in the living room with my folks) and we never watched it again. Despite it going on for years after then when I had my own TV, I never really got back into it.
I should go back and watch it. I bet it's on Netflix.
At this point in time there's less interest in extraterrestrials as once was. No, the threat is closer to home, and possibly quite more imaginative than grey aliens.
I like this show a lot back in the day and I'm excited to see what they come up with. I hope they make it modern enough but still believable.
When this show came out, the internet was still in its infancy. You could get away with things because the story or mystery was still that.
Paranormal phenomenon is an untangible mystery. It still is for some. But others The weird stuff in the world can be debunked or resolved quickly.
Now a days with spoilers and fact checking an episode can lose its charm. People can nitpick and blast a show without mercy.
Internet culture will have to play a big part of this new show. X-files cant do 90's type investigation in a 201X setting. Too much CSI may have ruined it for some.
How believable will it be for mulder and scully to solve a paranormal case when the internet can do it in a few days tops?
Back in the day the paranormal stuffs would be accepted when we watched an exciting episode. But what about now?
I dont want this show to be hokey with the plot. It needs to be strong so that if this show is to last longer, relevant stories can be said again.
Good storytelling can do it.
I'm sure there will be the obvious "Slender Man" episode. There needs to be a hook for this gen to latch on to this show and see what it will do next.
The people in our age bracket that watched the original show will feel nostalgic for new oldness again. But will younger people find resonance with this show?
I think I'm rambling on, but I hope you guys and gals did get the meaning of what I'm tyring to say.

I'm surprised Gillian Anderson was willing to do this. I saw her at Comicon a year or two ago and she seemed to have some disdain for the show and its fans. I really didn't like her much after seeing her interview and my wife (who is a HUGE X-Files fan) lost some respect for Gillian after that.
I kind of gave up on the show when it had switched from Friday to Sunday, how ever many seasons that was. Around that time is just wasn't as good as it had been before.
I was a fan of the series growing up and have seen most of it(I rarely venture into anything from season 7 or after), but I don't really see what they could do with this...or why, frankly. I didn't find the second film that great to be honest, and the only real point to this would be to tie up loose ends and finally finish everything off for good.
