Gradius V?

Post by randombullseye »

I'm anxious to buy Gradius V. I'm a big fan of the others in the series, and seeing that Treasure developed it how could it not be amazing?

Look on Amazon at the price. Sixty clams for Gradius V. I was just going to ask you fine folks if you thought it was worth it? I'm thinking that I could find it elsewhere for thirty dollars, but that seems pricey. I don't know. What do you guys think? The only addition to it that I'm aware of is a two player simultaneous gameplay. Other than that, I'm assuming its the standard Gradius formula. Is there something in here that I'm missing? I will get it eventually, even if I have to pay that outrageous price. I just thought I would gather some opinions first.

Questions of "is it worth it" are sort of hard to answer. It really depends on how highly you value a dollar. I think GV is the best game in the series, personally, and well worth that amount if you want to get it right away.

If you'd rather wait for a good deal, you could always hang around the shmups.com message board and eventually find one. Or just make a WTB thread.

I've found buying stuff on amazon to be pretty hit and miss condition/completeness-wise, but 17 bucks sounds pretty reasonable.

Its a damn good shooter unless you're some hardcore elitist. My only gripe is there's no way to skip the few annoying "cutscenes", where there's just voice chatter and crap I don't want to sit through every time.

It's a little different from the other Gradius games, Treasures involvement is noticible for sure. But it's still really good, but I wouldn't spend $60 on it.

I paid more than $60 for my copy. Every dollar well spent, I think. Awesome game.

If you look on ebay surely you can find a copy for under 25 dollars. I bought my copy for about 22 dollars with shipping. As far as the quality of the game goes, its easily one of the best shooters on the ps2 in my opinion. The game like most 2d shooters is pretty challenging, but still a lot of fun. I don't know if I would pay 60 dollars for it, but it definitely is worth at the very least 30. This is probably one of the most enjoyable entries in the gradius series, so a dollar value is hard to put on it. My advice is to pick a copy up on ebay, its a great game that any shmup fan with a ps2 should have in their collection.

i scored it new at gamestop a while ago, i think i paid about $30 (no more than that, i think less), their used copies are only $10 if you can find one in good shape. it's a good shooter, and I usually don't like horizontal shooters.

mind you i have my gripes about them [gamestop] just like everyone ("new" games, stickers, 75% mark-up on used games) but still, it wasn't a bad deal.

I watch ps2 PAL shmup prices in the UK via my amazon listmania on that subject http://www.amazon.co.uk/PS2-SHMUPS/lm/R ... _1_rdssss0 - in the UK prices for GV have fluctuated wildly between c.£5 and c.£35 - don't know what it's like in the states, but I'd recommend holding tight until you see it for a good price. There is no guarantee tho - gigawing generations (which I 'bought' for £15 from a dodgy seller, and ended up only getting a refund) has only gone up in price recently!

It's probably the best US released ps2 shmup and is an outstanding Gradius game, but $60 is a bit much. I paid $14 at gamestop for a used copy about 6 months ago and see it between 20-30 used around here. Just keep looking for a while and you'll find a better deal.
