Old games/new systems... a suggestion.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Old games/new systems... a suggestion.

Post by noiseredux »

I'd like to see sections on Racketboy that highlight the retro libraries of new(er) systems.

For instance, I'm a big PS2 enthusiast. I'd like to see a section for the PS2 that listed, and maybe even reviewed all the retro games available for the system. Y'know, like the Intellevision Lives anthology or the Mega Man collection. Things like that.

There could be Retro Library pages for each system. Thoughts?

I've got a few done, but the PS2 one will be a bit larger and left me procrastinating....

NOOO. Do not waste your money on PC gaming... trust me. The button layouts, inferior ports and overall gameplay feel super awkward.

Nice. I remember hunting up some of these in the past too

We need to find one that is all like "the NGPC is really the only system you need" or "the Game Boy library will keep me engaged for many many years" or some such.

Many of these compilations are quite bad on the PC though. Between the DRM, controls, and games running at the wrong speed some are nigh unplayable.

Getting back on this (old) topic, I was thinking about one day compiling a list of retro compilations. It'd be a huge undertaking though, so perhaps a community project is in order. I've always thought it would be helpful to have one organized by company too (ie: the Atari compilations, the Activision compilations, etc...).

Still one of my favorite Retro collections is the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection(360/PS3) nice variety of games on there. Really Sega had some pretty nice compilation sets last gen. Really liked how they made sets around their systems. Would have been really awesome if they had done a set for the Saturn or Master System as well maybe this gen  . Other then that Capcom has been good for the occasional compilation sets, and Midway, Atari, and Namco pop out arcade compilations on a pretty regular basis.

Would be really awesome if Nintendo and Sony would make some physical compilation sets for their older first party titles, but they seem content with digital releases aside from the boat load of PS2 HD collections  .

As far as PC goes you might as well emulate as opposed to buying the official compilation sets which usually use outdated emulation software anyways. Unless you are grabbing physical copies to throw on your shelf there isn't really much reason to buy them.

Sega's compilations always seem to have copious amounts of extras that make them worth have. Namco and Midway used to be a bit better at this but have really skimped in recent years.
