Hey Abe,

Without an actual complete list of the games you have, it will be tough to appraise them, I also think selling them in a lump sum is the best bet, I plan to do so with my collection when the time is right..its just easier than piecing it out individually

I let go of almost my entire 200+ NES cartridge collection via craigslist a few years ago to buy a home theater system. I took a decent loss on the sale compared to what I would have got on ebay (or even here), but I didn't want to have to deal with shipping 200+ games.

Prior to the big sale, I parted out the really valuable stuff (Contra Force, Snow Bros, Gargoyle's Quest 2, Megaman, Ninja Gaiden 3), but the commons and anything worth less than $15 went in the bulk sale. Saved me a headache, and I sold to a collector which made me feel good.

...of course now I'm trying to reacquire it all...sooooooo...yeah.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I'm taking all of it into consideration..

As others have expressed this too, it seems to be a major issue. However I don't see myself lusting after any physical goods like I used to. I seldom played the games I owned back in the day and I haven't touched them in years so I'm pretty confident that I wouldn't be trying to reacquire them.

There are definitely a few sentimental bits I'd keep like my Virtual Boy and some other personal favorites, but I just can't help but feel that the stuff would be better off in someone else's hands. In my ownership they're doing nothing but sitting in boxes without anyone to love them.

I should clarify that I don't regret the transaction. I never would have been able to afford the stereo of my dreams without selling off my games. I use the theater almost every day, and most of my games I played sparingly. Now I have a Retron 5, however, and I have that hooked up to my theater, so that's fueling my desire to reacquire carts. I still emulate the brutally expensive stuff I haven't been able to rebuy yet, but I'm having fun rebuilding my collection. I feel like that's different from having complete and total seller's remorse and going crazy rebuying absolutely everything again.

If you're cool with emulators or just have no time to game in general, I don't think you'd have regrets. For me, it's almost ALL about nostalgia. Having a huge selection of cartridges brings back my fondest memories of going to the video store with my dad to rent a game every week and staring at the massive wall of games and just thinking in my head "Look at all the adventures I could have!"

Now I'm getting sappy and rambling...anyway, if you do sell, I hope you decide to sell here, I'd love to take some games off your hands!

Honestly in my case the collection was sort of a way of personally avoiding addressing larger issues in my life. Now that those issues have been/are being addressed, the appeal of maintaining a large collection has kinda vanished.

Is it possible I'll get back into it later? Maybe. I'm not really worried about that though and I still don't regret selling in the slightest.

That's beautiful man...
Sometimes it turned out great. But let's also remember the crushing disappointment when you got home, popped the cart in, and realized you made a bad decision and were stuck with a turd all weekend. :x

That was the experience I had with Super Double Dragon. I returned it the next day and grabbed Super Smash TV (again)

That happened a few times with Bandai games. Thankfully I was suspicious of the Color Dreams games and never rented one of those.

I think you should keep the collection. There are tons of collectors who never play their games and just keep them as antiques. They might keep them for the artwork, nostalgia, or maybe they have some sort of historical significance (working designs art is great). It's perfectly acceptable. Remember, these games/systems will only go up in value. The collector who takes the best care of his games will have the best future collector items.
