I recently ordered a lot of the Metal Slug series for MVS, and when they got here, 4 and X weren't working. I cleaned the contacts and opened them up to check to see if they were bootlegs (as far as I can tell, the games are legit, though I'm not sure about the shells). I still get nothing. Whenever I try to play them (I'm using the MVS Magic Key converter on my AES), I get some crazy neon acid trip looking graphical distortions and then either a solid green or blue screen. It works fine with 1, 2, 3, 5, the bootleg hack labeled Metal Slug 6 (it was part of the lot; I didn't buy it separately thinking it was actually Metal Slug 6), and Samurai Shodown.
Unfortunately, I don't have an MVS to test it on, but I know the converter is supposed to work with Metal Slug 4 and Metal Slug X. Like I said, as far as I can tell, they're legit, but all I know to do is make sure that the PCB is labeled correctly and that the mask ROMs have the right NGH number; if there's another bootleg-checking method, please enlighten me. If there's a problem with the cartridge itself, is there a way I can get it fixed?
I've just recently started my NeoGeo collecting, so I still a newbie at all of this and may have missed something that would be obvious to a seasoned collector, so any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks, guys!

Re: MVS Cartridge Problem
Could be a simple solution (hopefully).
I have a Magic Key. Those things can be finicky. Games need to be super clean and perfectly aligned in the converter. I've gotten garbled screens before. Sometimes garbled text.
Hope your games are legit - good luck!

I know Metal Slug X is notorious for not working with some of the older converters

Re: MVS Cartridge Problem
I know it used not to work, but I just bought mine a couple months ago, and their site says that Metal Slug X work with it. I'll mess with it more some later in hopes that it just wasn't aligned properly, though I've never had it get finicky with me on any other games yet.ninjainspandex wrote:I know Metal Slug X is notorious for not working with some of the older converters
