Are you open to fan-translations/repros?
If so, I highly recommend Sweet Home, Chronicle of Radia War, and Mother

The Japanese artwork is cute though!prfsnl_gmr wrote:The cover-art didn't do it for you then?BoneSnapDeez wrote:^ I was actually playing that a few days ago.![]()
It's fairly dull and I'm a bit burned out on RPGs so back on the shelf it went.
Hilariously enough the in-game title doesn't match the cover art either ("Legend of the Ghost Lion" vs. plain ol' "Ghost Lion").
Doesn't seem like a bad game but I felt toast after playing Crystalis / Dragon Warrior / Faxanadu / Tombs & Treasure back-to-back.
Re: What were the best RPGS for the NES?
Could never get into the original FFI myself and I've refrained from attempting FFII since it sounds so broken (beat the PSP version).
FFIII blew my mind though. Although the story is ... well there's not really anything to talk about, the rest of the game was insanely awesome. From the amazing graphics, the gameplay that definitely set the real blueprints for FF4-FF6 to follow, the original job system with a few knacks here and there, and the OST is massive for an NES game. Some amazing stuff on there musically. The whole thing had a really cool and dreary atmosphere to it despite the cheesy childish story. I really loved the floating islands/great flood concept.
It's definitely a 99% dungeon crawler though and can be brutal, but worth it if you're into that or are an FF fan.

I'd like to know what the best exclusive RPGs are for the NES that are *still worth playing today*. I can't stomach Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy on the NES, for example, plus those have numerous modern remakes.

I have these, but I haven't played through yet.ninjainspandex wrote:So none of you are going to mention the Fire Emblem games? You people make me sick
From what I have played, they're very very clunky. Might not be the type of thing everyone can get into.
I though the first Fire Emblem on SNES was the same for that matter.
Re: What were the best RPGS for the NES?
I'd but that for a dollar.prfsnl_gmr wrote:So hot...alienjesus wrote:It kind of looks like someone photoshopped Luke's face onto She-Ra.
