I don't have too many problems with the treasure level, although I do make some stupid mistakes at times. But that boss gets nasty when he splits into three if you don't have any subweapons.

When I was young, I made up names for all the levels because "level 8" and "level 7" doesn't mean anything to me. Those names stuck, I still use them in my head. Admittedly, I should have called that level "the treasure level" or "treasure room" or something, but I called it "the ghost level" because of the constant transparent ghost floating up.

I just want to point out that I am happy you are playing Super Castlevania IV (at my suggestion, I hope). The last few levels are drastically easier than the last two levels of Castlevania, and I don't think they will give you too much of a problem.

Hey all, Castlevania newby here. Working my way through Harmony of Dissonance at the moment. I'm definitely enjoying all the lite RPG elements in the game as well as the combat. Still pretty early in the game though (level 7). After this I'll probably gravitate toward either Castlevania IV or Symphony of Night.

SotN will have the same pseudo-RPG feel that HoD has, Super IV will be a very different feel. Castlevania was originally an action game with some platform elements, when Symphony came out it drastically changed the feel of basically all future games until Lords of Shadow came out and changed it again (except for Judgement, but shut up)

To echo Kalessin, Symphony of the Night is probably the way you want to go. The series changed radically upon its release and left the old style behind. If you want to continue on in that, there's also the likes of Circle of the Moon and Aria of Sorrow(among a bunch of other handheld 2D games for DS and such), and there are a couple 3D Castlevanias with light RPG elements, Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness.

If you would instead prefer to try out the original action platforming style, that would be Castlevania 1-4, Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood, Legends, or the 3D games Castlevania 64 and Legacy of Darkness.

So those crumbling stairs are making me pull my hair out. Sometimes I get a good run going and make it nearly to the top with the floating platforms, but other times I get stuck on the second flight because Simon feels like pausing for a few seconds when I land on the stairs and then I fall off.

Nope, on the last level. I finally got a decent run on the sewers and fortunately the monster is a pushover. The treasury took me a bit because I kept dying against the boss with no subweapon, but again I got a good run where I was methodical, got the cross from the secret room and demolished the boss. Clock tower took me a bit because I started trying to rush it, but then the boss is the easiest boss in the game; he didn't even touch me once and all I did was stand at whips length while he didn't hit me with fireballs.
