So what have you guys been watching lately?

I've started watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. It's Tina Fey's new lovechild, so it's really fast paced, smart, and funny like 30 Rock used to be.

I also started watching the new season of Community. I'm glad they made it to their final season, but the cast has really thinned out. If they make the movie, I hope they can get the whole gang back together again.

I've been plowing through Burn Notice after having it recommended to me quite a number of years ago by a coworker/friend... quite good. I'm almost at the end of season 5 (of 7).

Also just devoured 2/3rds of Archer Vice (Archer Season 5) Monday night when a friend was over and will probably finish it tonight since I don't have much else to do.

I've realized, however, that Netflix is definitely eating my gaming time. The time where I would sit around semi-braindead (yes it requires thought to play games, but a very different kind of thought) and playing a game, I'm instead sitting there watching Netflix. Dunno how I feel about this. Kinda want to start putting in some real time on a game again, honestly. Certainly have a mighty backlog, but part of me wants to get a 3DS and Bravely Default and go to town. The weather's warming up, I could play while walking or whatever... I dunno, we'll see.

This was recommended to me because we watched "Salvage Hunters"...obviously there is no correlation here, was just netflix pushing their new show.

I watched the first episode and didn't see any of the smart or funny. Would you say the episodes get better after the first...or if I didn't like the first, should I move on? Episode 1 after the first 3 minutes just became repetitive jokes on stereotypes.

I'm honestly not sure how to answer that. I liked the show from the first episode, so I want to say you can stop there if you didn't like it. On the other hand, I hated 30 Rock at first, but it eventually clicked with me and I loved it. This show feels very similar to 30 Rock, so it might be that the comedy style takes a few episodes to grow on you.

I think I'm with JT on this one, Mike. I think if you give it some time, it'll grow. We're like four episodes in and I'm not bursting out loud laughing, some chuckles but overall it's decent. Similar to 30 Rock and Parks and Rec's first seasons, I'm hoping. From Season 2 on for both of those shows, they're absolute gold. I think it's the growing pains of establishing the characters and backstories, while the writing team starts getting in the groove.

That, and I'm waiting for Season 5 of Portlandia to hit Netflix. It can't get here quick enough. There have been a few times where I've been tempted to jump in midseason on IFC, but I've resisted.

Super underrated show. Best dialogue on tv.
Yeah, that's right - thanks. I agree, the banter is quick, witty, and fun. Walton Goggins is ace - as good here as he was in The Shield.

@Mitch; Rapaport is only in season 5 (wasn't in 1 through 4). He is a major player in the season though and is brilliant. Amy Smart, who we all like, is in this season as well.
This is one of my favorite shows, I will hate to see it end. Did anyone else start the show because they were an Elmore Leonard fan? Anyway, between Boyd and Raylan this show is endlessly quotable and entertaining. I wonder if they are doing some foreshadowing by ending every season with "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive".

EDIT: On Kimmy Schmidt, my wife liked the show so we ended up binge watching a bit. I don't know if the show really ever gets any better. It isn't bad in my opinion, but there are definitely better ways to spend your screen time if it is limited. It brings Revelation 3:16 to mind.

It's both a pro and a con that this has Tina Fey's stamp all over it. The character Tina herself plays is really, really not funny. It's like, gang of friends got together in college and decided to make Youtube videos not funny, that's the best way to describe her character.

A lot of the dialogue is really quite clever, although the premise begins to grate about midway through, and the last episodes especially don't skate dumb/funny well enough. The characters become too dumb.

The girl playing Kimmy is great, but she's outshined by Titus. He's the real reason to watch the show, he is absolutely hysterical. I actually watched all the way through simply for more Titus.

For anyone on the fence, the characters do become more than caricatures as the season progresses, but there's no real pay off. The show was intended for and produced by NBC (explaining the 22 minute episode length), and I feel like a lot of it was "safe" (aka the humour suffers) because it was meant for network television. Season 2 holds promise if they up the ante.

In comparison to other new comedies (Man Seeking Woman comes to mind), I feel it fell mostly flat. Too many one dimensional stereotypes, and really basic baby's first humour kind of jokes.

Anyone ever have a morning off and watch the TV talk show, "The Doctors?" That show is infuriating. Today they were suggesting that people take Ecstacy to cure their PTSD and do awesome bits like, "The Dangers of Tattoos," and proceed to show a woman who cut into her arm and surgically removed a huge chunk of her flesh that had a tattoo of an ex's name and mailed it to him in a jar.

I hate the fucking doctors.

It is absolute lunacy! Later in the Ecstacy show they had this lady who had a skin condition where the left side of her face looked a tiny bit bloated (it really didn't look crazy at all and looked quite normal) and they kept saying it looks like her face is melting (it didn't) and how she NEEDED to get all this plastic surgery done. Yeah it didn't look bad at all. It has to be on at my work, because my co-workers are insane and demand it to be on.
