I hope they do something where street pass can be downloaded to an android or apple phone.

There's times where I cant take my big 3DSXL with me places. But I have to take my phone with me.

Why cant my smartphone make a street pass signal to meet up with other users and then download it to my 3ds or wii U when I get home?

Call me simple and I dont know if much people like Streetpass, but I have fun seeing new users when I take my 3ds out.

This would be an app I would gladly download.

I'm surprised there's not more talk about the NX codename console. Are they already to looking at a WiiU follow up?

I sold my 3DS in anticipation of the new 3DS XL but once I found Monster Hunter was totally playable on my iPhone I haven't had the desire to go back.

So I'm pretty okay with the idea of some little Nintendo games on my phone.

I think it's a good move. It's reassuring too with Iwata's statement that they're not watering down 3DS versions of the game and porting them over to mobile. If anything, this isn't likely marketed to us, but like someone else has mentioned already, it's expanding to other markets where Nintendo hasn't had a presence.

Like fast, I'm excited for E3 too!

The last time they addressed future console plans, over a year ago now, they mentioned working towards a unified platform (mostly under question 5 here).

With that in mind, I wouldn't be sure that the NX console they mentioned is necessarily just a home console, or even one specific model or machine. Plus, the company they announced partnership with today, DeNA, really has more of a history in online infrastructure than as a game publisher (though they're that too, recently). It's not just what apps they might help them make to consider, but what back end systems they may be collaborating on - unified login likely being the starting point.

Bad news, get ready for the shovelware.

Someone show me a good Sonic mobile game.
(wait, probably not a good comparison since there's no good new Sonic in general).

It's either that or the other scenario will be that they end up making an amazing Mario or Zelda game that never gets released on anything else, yet retains the awful controls that ruin mobile games for me.

I don't really care in the end, it'll print them more money.

I'm trying to think positive about this, but I'm having a hard time. I say that because when I think of when I've seen Nintendo IPs on platforms they did not own in the past, none of what I've seen was very good.

I mean the 2600 versions of Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong were decent enough. But what about all the Mario educational games that came out on PC, or that flash game they published, and especially the nefarious CD-i games. The track record concerning this sort of idea hasn't proved entirely extraordinary thus far.

Here's hoping though.

Well they're partnering with DeNA, one of the largest mobile gaming giants in Japan. Not some dude that wants to make a Mario typing game.

I'd be greatly surprised if they make something on a FF ATB or Godus level of failure.

Hate to see this happen, but that's just because I dislike mobile phone games in general. I suppose it might give 'em extra income to finally do a real Mario 64/Sunshine-style game. Or the extra money to take the hit on pikmin 4.

If Iwata is going to share more about the NX next year, then I guess we can expect it by 2017? If it's a unified console, and they can put everything into making it as excellent as it can be, maybe it'll hold a sort of "Dreamcast" role into the next-gen- an early graphical powerhouse. :)

"Some dude" was Brian Fargo with Interplay, not exactly a garage developer.

What DeNA is offering Nintendo is a mobile platform portal and social network for games. Not entirely unlike a Steam for mobile, or iTunes, or Google Play, whatever analog you want. That's all there is to it.
