You do know they have robust and high production value games on tablets right? Devices more powerful than the 3DS. My biggest hesitation to tablet gaming has been control, as I dont like touch screen, though I know controller support is becoming very good.

Does anyone have any links to actual Nintendo employees saying this? As usual all Kotaku links lead back to Kotaku.

There have been a lot of posts on gaming websites saying this same thing. None of them ended up having a real source and they typically ended up being outright fabrications with no real basis.

It would be a really dumb move for Nintendo to announce that they were working on a new system. This is likely to be the best they're going to do with their current hardware, and it would be dumb to make people think that they're going to stop support for it soon.

That was pretty much my list of "things Iwata is least likely to say at a press release".

Twilight Zone day. But I think Iwata made a pretty strong statement with:
Please also note that, even if we use the same IP on our dedicated video game systems and smart devices, we will not port the titles for the former to the latter just as they are. There are significant differences in the controls, strengths and weaknesses between the controllers for dedicated game systems and the touchscreens of smart devices. We have no intention at all to port existing game titles for dedicated game platforms to smart devices because if we cannot provide our consumers with the best possible play experiences, it would just ruin the value of Nintendofs IP.
E3 is going to be nuts.

Yeah there was a time when Iwata said Nintendo had no intention at all of developing mobile games. We now see that was not the case in reality. I don't believe anything Iwata says is set in stone, because money makes his decisions, not his ideals. I would not be surprised to see previously existing DS or 3DS games ported to mobile. DraStic shows this is certainly possible.
