Played about 5 hours of For The Frog the Bell Tolls yesterday. It's pretty great. The whole game is kinda silly, but the game mechanics are fun, even if combat is really weird.

I think I'm about two thirds through, so hopefully I'll finish it this evening.

I've been playing a ton of Ancient Domains of Mystery recently. Man, I love roguelikes. And ASCII graphics. And dying every 20 minutes.

Seriously, I've had one character make it past level 10, and I feel insanely accomplished.

I was playing a roguelike myself yesterday, Fatal Labyrinth on the Genesis.

On floor 4, the game spawned me in a room with no doors.

Not sure if I just got "lucky", or if the game's procedural generator is broken, but it was pretty hilarious. Other than that, fairly competent but bare bones little roguelike.

The game looks interesting, that's for sure. :D

I found it incredibly dull. Like, really, really, really dull. I stuck with it for half an hour and then decided to play something else because it was such a bore.

Maybe it was a saving grace that the game didn't even let me play for that long.

To be fair, my exposure to the genre is very small, so it being an actual roguelike at all was interesting to me. I may have had "woah this is on the Genesis" glasses on.

I'll at least give it one more, less clouded attempt, and see what I really think of it, if it lets me play it.

Fatal Labyrinth is cool. I also have a soft spot for console rouguelikes. The Mystery Dungeon series is all kinds of awesome.

I still need to get that.

Somewhat related: the other day I discovered two other Zelda-ish games on Game Boy I was unaware of. Rolan's Curse I & II. How I made it this far without discovering those is a mystery.

I loved this game growing up. I think I had suggested it for TR in the past even. I always forget I have it on Steam. I should fire it up sometime.

I feel that if we're gonna do a roguelike for Together Retro, it should actually be, y'know, a good one.

You're right. It should be Castle of the Winds.
