Because she's an actress over 40 and Hollywood generally ignores women past their mid-30s.MrPopo wrote:How come we don't see Claire Forlani anymore?

2014's Nightcrawler is one of the better films I've seen in some time. Ultimately I'd call it a dark comedy concerning satirizing news outlets, self help, and the labor market. But there's some thought provoking elements at well, and an ending I actually didn't expect. I'm tempted to give more details than that, but the less you know about the plot the more fun it will be to experience.

She was in the failed Starz Camelot/King Arthur show a few years back, then was in another tv series, but not sure if it succeeded.MrPopo wrote:I'm picking up what you're putting down. How come we don't see Claire Forlani anymore?Stark wrote:Claire Forlani > Joey Lauren Adams.

Used a free rental code on it the other night. Pretty solid movie Gyllenhal played probably one of the most manipulative/self serving characters I have probably ever seen in a movie and he actually pulled him off really well even making him a little creepier then I expected. It's just crazy watching how far his character is willing to go. At the start of the film he just seems like a creepy crazy dude who isn't good with people, but his character really expands as the film goesExhuminator wrote: Nightcrawler

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

Interesting film. Hadn't heard too much about if before heading in but what I had heard made me think it'd be reasonably typical, if slightly more cerebral, revenge movie. Quite pleased then that the film does go in directions I wasn't expecting it too.
It's a very low key affair with very little dialogue and few characters but it hangs together off of some wonderful cinematography and a well paced narrative that slowly ups the tension. I found it to be a little too low key though and it's a shame that, even though the film explores the whole "eye for an eye" thing, the antagonists are these horrible hillbilly people with sheds full of guns.
Still, it's good for a look if you're after something that'll make you feel bad.

With the recent, and baffling, announcement of what sounds like a shared Ghostbusters universe, I rewatched Ghostbusters 2 although it's more accurate to say it was on while I listened to the Redlettermedia commentary track for it.
When I first saw it I was too young to know that it was, in film terms, a load of pish. I just liked it because it was Ghostbusters and more of it. I used to get up a hour early to tape the cartoon so I could rewatch it over throughout the week and was I obsessed with the toys. I had a Ghostbusters themed track suit my mum had to burn because it got so covered in muck the fabric had started to rot and I got thrown out a class in primary school for insisting my name was Peter Venkman.
But as an adult, yeah I see the flaws. It's really clear Bill Murray wasn't up for it and that it mirrors Ghostbusters almost scene for scene. Plot elements like the the slime and the painting don't gel together as Goza and the Central Park west building in that mudane/supernatural blend the first did so well. It also stops being a comedy for it's final act and gets so cheesy even Roland Emmerich would be turn his nose up.
So basically, I think on the commentary the guys at RLM are a bit too harsh on the film. It's a rehash and a bit of cynical one at that but it's still a fun time and there are some great jokes/creepy bits (always spooked out by the photograph developing bit). It's a rehash of something that was brilliant, unlike say four Transformers movies that are rehashes of something that is not brilliant.
