lol blows my mind that they are still making old school 80's style boomboxes with cassette players and mp3 input, I guess we can thank the hipsters for that.Luke wrote:

It's not a "hipster" thing. Makes sense that cassette players are still being produced, as new releases continue to be available on cassette and people need something to play all the music they purchased in the 80s/90s.
You can walk into Best Buy today and buy stereos with cassette support (not to mention VHS/DVD combos).

Today's hipsters are spending hundreds on a pair of headphones for their mp3's (or flac files, for the true hipster).
Cassettes are the furthest thing from 'hip' you can get.

Yeah I thought about posting that but all the reviews said it was a cheaply built POS like just about everything made this day and ageninjainspandex wrote:lol blows my mind that they are still making old school 80's style boomboxes with cassette players and mp3 input, I guess we can thank the hipsters for that.Luke wrote:

Man... last time I had a component stereo system (low-end, it was a freebie from a friend) was years and years ago, I had it hooked up to my computer back in the day. It was fun. I kinda wanna do it again, but I barely even turn on my desktop these days so it feels like it'd be a waste.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

The only people I know who actually say the word "Hipster" are people in their 60's who think it's a jive word to tell people how cool their unemployed son is.
The only people I know who actually use the word "jive" includes me, people who say "jive turkey", and other cliche's from the 80's.

Sooo, long story short I now have a Sony CFD-S22 boombox to use. (it's a radio/cassette/cd player)
Plays cassettes just fine. Now to find some 80's metal tapes.

I still rock the boombox... just not the metal tapes you speak of.
Re: Looking for a decent cassette player (no, really)
Speaking of "Metal" rock tapes, look for units that have a "metal" switch for the cr02 tapes. This comes in handy if you have the high end cassette tapes. Most decent players will at least have a Dolby switch to cut down on the tape hiss. Personally I always leave them off to get the max treble of the tapes.
A bit of trivia, there are also digital recorded tapes, but was a very limited market. The problem was the "analog" method of jumping songs by still having to fast forward or rewind.
A Tape Deck versus a Boom Box will be better for the home stereo or TV amplifier system that has a Tape or Aux input. Unless the tape is rare or out of print, upgrading to CD would be a better route though.
