Verytex is a pretty average shooter, but the soundtrack is fantastic.

How about soundtracks where the game itself absolutely blows, but the music is awesome? (ala Silver Surfer for the NES by Tim Follin).

Both composed by Matt Furniss:
RoboCop 3:
The Adventures of Mighty Max:

An honorable mention, from a game that DOESN'T suck, is the soundtrack for Langrisser 1, aka Warsong over here in the US:

Sounds even better on real hardware... (on the model 1 Genesis, of course). Channel volumes are quite off in emulation, just to name ONE thing...

Dude, I've been playing Atomic Runner recently as well, fucking insanely good game. The first stage track gets stuck in my head. Haven't made it past Stage 3 yet though.

I think it's one of the most underrated Genesis games. I can only chalk the fact that it's not more popular up to its brutality.

Yeah, of all the Genesis stuff I've been plowing through recently, Atomic Runner stands tall, it is criminally underrated. When I sit down to play some Genesis, it has been the first game to hit the cart slot for 2 weeks straight now.

That stage 3 parallax is....

Oh, I've got one for this: The title track to Divine Sealing.

Its not in-yo-face, but it has a great melody, and is easily the best thing in the game (Unless you like bad hentai or acid-like, dizzying water effects).

No shit? Atomic Runner is good? I played it once and had no idea what I was doing but I thought it was a total dud. I'll have to pay more attention on what to do and try again

Big tip that helped me click with the game. Mess with the control settings. There are like, 9 different control setups, and its not simply just moving the buttons around, but actually changing the way the game plays. I personally enjoy Type 3-1, as it lets you use A and C to shoot left and right, without needing a button to switch directions.
