I'd say only about 1/3 of the levels so far give you a choice of using a mask and I think you unlock them by beating levels (as opposed to earning a particular grade). To be honest they are a much less significant component of this game so far, which is fine with me.

So no more "Carl has a drill...," eh? Aw, oh well, I'm still enjoying what I've played so far.

God...I am so jealous of you two right now. I can't wait to play this.

.....

Noise: I think that DSH and I have very different tastes in video games. (He loves generic first- and third-person shooters along with the occasional WRPG and generic saccharine platformer. I love generic saccharine platformers with the occasional JRPG and generic first- or third-person shooter.) We both agree, however, that Hotline Miami is ridiculously awesome, and I think you will like it a lot more than you think...(Ack described its addictive gameplay perfectly.)

Noise I think you will see it as I do. I liked it and beat it and is more fun to play than it seems like it would from watching it or reading about it.

It can be very frustrating at times, but in a challenging way that makes you want to keep trying. I cuss a lot at it too. You finally get past a few tough moments to just get killed by some easy or dumb thing. Very few games get me cursing at my screen quite like the first one did.

However, I also dont think it is amazing, and only played the first because it was free on psn+. There is a lot of trial and error, but very rarely is it trial and error until you find the one way it has to work. Often times it is trial and error until you find the way it works for you. I cheesed through a few not by great strategy, but by luck or a quick reflex. Some I kept trying at and found a strategy that worked for me and defeated it.

I'll consider it to be on my "if I see it in a sale for like a buck" list.

I wrote a weird review for Hotline Miami that is one of the first ones you see on the GOG store page for the game:

Oh my God, I have been looking for that game for years. I played this around 1991 but could not for the life of me remember what it was.
