You should probably just burn it and save everyone else the humiliation.

I find it funny that the original comment that started this tangent was saying difficult shooters, run'n'guns and platformers but only shmups ,specifically the arcade shmups, were mentioned to confirm the argument.

What of console ports/exclusives which have a lives/continue system built in, no free-play option? What are the platformers and run'n'guns that take longer than any RPG?

Also is there anyone here who credit feeds a shmup, completes the story and tells people you beat it and actually puts it on the self to never be played again because you consider the game finished?

It absolutely applies to Platformers and Run N' Guns.

If you want specifics...sure, almost every single Run N Gun and Platformer for Neo Geo is designed to be 1CC'd. Ganryu, Magician Lord, Shock Troopers, Metal Slug, Miracle Adventure, Ninja Commando, Top Hunter, etc and etc.

Speaking of 1CC... does it only really count if you minimize the amount of lives, health, and put the difficulty to maximum in the dip switch settings? What do the hard-cores think?

I really find that a bit hard to believe. Thoughtful designers will design their games for a 1CC run, and I'm not sure I'd put all those games in the "thoughtfully designed" category.

I really think we need to have a distinction between games that can be 1CC'ed and games that are designed to be 1CC'ed. Unless you've got an interview from a dev of some of those games that says as much, at which point I will question their sanity. :)

Do you have evidence for this? Seems to be again you are focusing on the arcade where they were designed to make money by you dying. Who made up this 1cc rule? From what I gather the fans made it up and eventual the developers added in something extra for 1ccing in a few games to make the fans happy while also still keeping in their original designs to make money. Seriously there needs to be console games mentioned where the rules are precise and not made up or vague. Because if I beat all those games you listed and it took me two credits and you claim I didn't really beat any of those that is truly silly.

The AES version of Metal Slug even has limited continues from what I understand, so it's not the same thing as the Cave shmup examples at all imo.

I think we're getting hung up on the 1CC (yes, I know i've mentioned it a whole lot)...again the original point of contention was the comment that a backlog of RPG's is more daunting than a backlog of Shooters...

My comment, and sentiment similarily echoed by Chaz and Dave, is that the above comment is not necessarily true. In my case (and those who feel similar to me) would be more daunted by 10 shooters from Toaplan / Psikyo / NMK / Konami / SETA / CAVE / SNK / Video System or any other developer in the past 20 years; than they would be by 10 RPG's from the relevant developers in that genre.

Now, let me also clear up the idea of elite and hardcore. Chaz has gotten into some games hardcore, but none of us are hardcore players. There are MANY hardcore players on dedicated forums who will literally play the same game, nearly every day, for hours, for years. This is how indepth some of these games are. Go watch a super play of Mush Futari 1.5 Ultra mode.

Again, we are passionate and only want others to understand and possibly experience the joy from these genres (run n' gun, shmup) that we have.

What do you play, consoles? Casual please. We true gamers have a huge backlog of Japanese arcade machines. My whole garage is jam pack full of shmup cabinets I can't even park my car because I'm so real with this.

WHICH YOU WRONGLY AND ARCHAICALLY INTERPRETED TO MEAN SHMUPS AND CONTINUE TO DO SO DESPITE ME EXPLAINING THREE TIMES THAT'S NOT EVEN WHAT I WAS ORIGINALLY TALKING ABOUT.

Sorry to shout but maybe this fourth time you will actually read it.
