How do you play Dreamcast on a moniter through a VGA cable?

Post by Original_Name »

I've hooked the VGA cable to a VGA cord, which I've connected to my moniter. Now I've turned on the Dreamcast (which powers up) and nothing happens on screen. Clearly I'm missing something. All the connections seem to be in place, now how do I play?

Are you sure the male and female plugs are matching up?

Yeah, like, they connect into one another. At first I didn't know I had to get a VGA cord to connect the cable to the VGA port, but it arrived, so I'm using it. It's not like I have two male plugs pressed up against one another, if that's what you're asking.

Your plugs' sexuality is not something we should judge. After all, who are we to stand in the path of true love?

TV/PC switch? On the VGA cable? I can't find any switches on it. We're talking about the VGA cable and not the VGA box, correct?

no, on the VGA box. Most of them have a switch to select between an s-video/AV (TV) output and the VGA (PC) output.

No, this has no such feature as far as I can tell. This is the cable I'm referring to:

gotcha, yeah you're right that one doesn't.

My vga cable is occasionally "picky" with it's connection to the dreamcast itself. Out of curiosity are you using a CRT (Tube) monitor or a flat panel LCD? I don't see a reason why they all wouldn't have support for 640X480 but maybe a newer display could have a problem with the low resolution. unlikely, but if you've got a friend with an old monitor, haul your DC over there to check. you don't even need a game- the dashboard shows up on a monitor without a disc in. if that doesn't work, and your monitor works fine with your PC, you've got a bad vga box/cable.
